Basic help setting up site with Purity III

Post by Steinrawr » Mon Nov 11, 2024 8:22 pm

So. I've had a simple website hosted with SP builder prevously, but I wanted an option with no watermarks and simpler setup, but here I am, completely LOST.

So. my site should be just ONE page, no menus, no sub- no nothing.

Instead of starting from scratch, I've installed the template and assigned a style i want to build on, but I cannot for the life of me get anything to show the way I want it. At this point, I'm not sure if I even remember all info to do a clean new install.

I've read the documentation for purity UP and DOWN, but i simply do not understand it, or can get it to work based on the "tutorials" there.

Can someone please explain what I need to do to make some text and a few images actually appear, like i'm an idiot, please?

I have five articles with text
  • About me
  • About my company
  • Projects
  • Competencies
  • Footer with basic business info
I would like theese to show in that order on my site, where I want to assign pictures of my projects inbetween with 3-5 in a row (static images or a slideshow, I haven't decided)

What have i tried?
I've tried assigning one and one article to menus, I've tried linking one and one article to Modules (the only place i can find the "position" choices), I have tried to create several menus, but there doesn't seem to be a way to not show all elements in the menu, so it just looks weird. I've looked throug ALL settings in articles, and practically toggled one and one, looking inbetween every toggle to see if it does anything. I've tried googling, purity III seems to be practically unused. I've also looked through [youtube] for help, but nothing that explains how to make content appear. I've found a helpful video for layout setup, but nothing about how to apply my content to that setup.

help.

Only you know how you want it to look. It is a learning curve of trial and error https://www.joomlart.com/documentation/ ... purity-iii

Yes, but I cant assign any of my info, to any slots in layout, and can't find any way to make it show up in any meaningful way.

If you're trying to assign modules to template module positions, make sure you're using the positions that Purity III uses (i.e. you may see the module positions for Cassioepia as well).

I'm not sure how your site is going to work all as one page (certainly there are templates that work as a 'one-page site' but Purity III works in the traditional way, with a menu module with links to the various articles (which is what you're saying you don't want?).

I actually don't understand your methodology. The simple way would be create a menu module, add five menu items e.g. Home page, About Me, About Company, Projects, Competencies. The footer can then be a module, shown on all pages (associated to the menu items).

I assume you're not new to Joomla itself, given you have used the (quite advanced) SP Page Builder component. If you need a refresher on Joomla's basics, refer to https://jdocmanual.org/jdocmanual?manual=user and/or https://docs.joomla.org (I think the former is intended to replace the latter).

Given SP Page builder works with its own article/page structure, did you remove that before installing Purity III? That means your content would probably be deleted to.

If you use Wamp you could create a purityiii folder in it
i.e. \www\purityiii
Then install their quickstart package in it.
Visit the front page of your quickstart site and there is a tutorial.

So. Yes, I was able to show everything in chronological order by setting up a module to show all articles, that looked AWFUL, even after removing all the meta following all the articles. Still could not assign anything to any one position. BUT..

I figured it out. Nothing seems to be possible to assign to a position without doing the following (when all my content is in articles at least)
- Create a category for each article
- Create a Artice newsfalsh module for each category
- Assign the module to wanted position, add the correct category for wanted article

I could've just made a sustom module, and write my content straight into it, but when i want to combine a few things with images and etc. it would've been double the work.

Ended up on a setup i'm semi happy with. If only Purity would allow me to change anything in the CSS files, I'd actually have images show correctly. It doesn't allow for title images to show in auto height, so they're stretched like [censored], and neither of custom css fields or the css files themselves will allow for change..
