Hi.

Is it possible to completely remove the use of cookies in Joomla?

Even logging-in the back-end requires cookies, some user-preferences may be stored using them such as the light/dark mode setting and the "remember me" function of the login form etc.

p.s. Someone has deleted my previous answer and I'm going to write it again.

Hi @petergusta,

Cookies are essential for features like Joomla's user management system, analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics), tracking tools (e.g., Facebook Pixel), or shopping cart extensions. If you're using any of these functionalities, cookies are necessary for proper operation.

However, if you don't use any of the above, it is possible to avoid cookies entirely. You can either create a simple custom system plugin to prevent cookies from loading or, if you're using other 3rd party extensions like Cookies Policy Notification Bar Joomla! Plugin [ redacted ], you can achieve this by disabling the Allow Session Cookies option.

This occurs when you click the "Ok, I've understood" button, indicating your consent to cookies.
If you do not provide consent (on your first visit), you will not see any cookies (screenshot).

My screenshot was taken after refusing cookies.
btw
How do you think the visiting browser knows not to accept cookies if it does not store that information in a session cookie?
You are incorrect.
End of story. Please stop posting misleading information.

The example I shared demonstrates a setup where no cookies are loaded unless consent is explicitly provided.

If cookies are entirely blocked or consent is withheld during the initial visit, Joomla! can operate without creating certain cookies—provided features like "remember me," user login sessions, or third-party integrations requiring cookies are not in use.

That's all. Have a good day! :)

I declined cookies yet the Joomla session cookie was still placed on my laptop as my screenshot clearly shows.
