[5.2.3] Breadcrumbs does not show third level side menu

Post by sdev-dsicse » Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:01 am

Hello,

The breadcrumbs does not show the third level side menu. Not sure it's a bug or a bad usage behavior.

### Steps to reproduce the issue
1- Create a Sidebar-left ou Sidebar-right third level menu

- Backend admin panel > Menu > Manage > Create a new menu
- Backend admin panel > Menu > [New menu] > Add some menu items (Menu Item Type = single article / Select Article = One published article)

- Backend admin panel > Content > Site Modules > Create a new "Menu" module (Select Menu = Backend admin panel > Menu > [New menu] / Position = Sidebar-left/right)

2- Frontend > Go to menu level 1 / level 2 => Breadcrumb display is OK

3- Frontend > Go to menu level 1 / level 2 / Side menu => Breadcrumb does not show parent menus

### Expected result
The "Frontend > Go to menu level 1 / level 2 / Side menu" breadcrumb should display "Home/[Level1 menu]/[Level2 menu]/[Side menu]

Thx for any help !
Regards,
Eric

Check the options of the menu module. https://docs.joomla.org/Help5.x:Site_Mo ... Module_Tab start and end levels?

Hi.

For breadcrumbs to work correctly, the entire structure must be within a single menu. You can then display parts of this menu through menu modules by set up the starting menu item and the display levels in the module settings.

When creating a new menu, you create a new structure starting from the root of the site. This menu is not connected to any other menu, which is why breadcrumbs do not work as you want.

Alternatively, after creating a new menu, you can only use menu items of the alias type there, which will reference to existing items from another menu.

But the main idea remains the same—the entire structure must be within a single menu. Then, you can display parts of this menu either through module settings or by using another menu that contains exclusively aliases.

Hi Pavel,
