I have been looking all over for the answer to this. I'm on ubuntu 24.04.1 server not accessible from outside my personal network. Trying to set up testing but keep getting the following error whenever I try to start the installtion:

This is strictly a testing server, and is not production so don't worry about any ownership issues, production will be properly locked down.

Did you point your browser at the root of your site, not the administrator folder? Why has your administrator folder been given 777 permissions? That might indicate you have not set up permissions properly.

Have you deleted the file? It will be recreated on the next access.

Memory Limit needs to be at least 256M.

Upload and Post Size is also to small.

This is strictly a testing server and is locked out from any inbound connections, so I'm not worried about permeissions right now as no one can access it but me. once it goes into production it will be on a secured server anad permissions will be correctly placed.

I am getting this error as soon as i point my browser to it. I just downloaded the software today and unzipped it on the server and get this issue right out of the gates. it won't let me even get to any steps beyond the error, when i point my browser to my server at xxx.xxx.x.xx/kaos it automatically pops the error up, so there is no installation happening.

Further to my previous message: I seem to remember that autoload_psr4.php is created early in the installation process so that it can be used to find the PH classes Joomla uses. It does not get created if there are permissions problems. Typically the web server is running as xuser/xgroup and can't write files into file space owned by you.

I set the web server to run as me/mygroup and point the site root to my own filespace. That way I can have dozens of Joomla installations (and other things too) in different subfolders and I don't run into permissions problem and I don't have generate subdomains for each instance.

I got it fixed, i had to make chown the subfolder with www-data:www-data adn it waws fixed, now I am setting up things as it installed with no errors.

That's what you get when using Apache handler. I recommend fpm-cgi which can be configured as another User .
