Should I redirect or ignore non-post/file-like URLs in Joomla's redirects?

Post by KirstyKennedy » Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:35 pm

I have a website running in Joomla and I just noticed 1000's of URL's under the "redirect" plugin.

The URL's are not pages, or posts, they look like file names. They do not appear in the Site Map.

Should I redirect them or just ignore them?
Sorry this is my first question, and I don't know if this is the right place to ask.

Just delete them.

Disable the Plugin to stop the collecting.

Welcome to Joomla forum!

The Redirect Plugin collects all URLs with 404 error.
Those weird filename URLs are generated by bots, trying to find known vulnerabilities (like know wp plugin files that have security issues). Because those files are not in your site, you'll get the redirects.

At the front-end of your site, add something-random behind the URL.
That should generate a 404 error.
And the URL will be visible in the Redirects.

If you don't want that, follow gws advice and "purge" the disabled redirects once in a while.
If you don't want to collect any faulty links, use Per's advice and switch off the collecting of faulty links in the plugin.
