Menu requires compatibility mode ON

Post by rgtr » Fri Dec 13, 2024 4:35 pm

Hi
I had to setup an empty J5.2.2 for testing.
Loaded a couple of things to test, setup a couple of articles and menu items to access them.
Guess what - I turned Compatibility Mode off by disabling the Backward Compatibility extension - and the menu system failed !
What next ???

See tdocplus.co.uk/0a_Empty500/

Luckily the sites which have been upgraded slowly all work fine - compatibility ON of course !

You have a 3rd party extension that requires the plugin to be active. Deactivating it doesn't break a a vanilla site.

Disabled it and all is well.

According to JED, Zh GoogleMap is compatible with Joomla 5, but if you download and unzip the package released in March 2024 that contains the J3 and J4 versions and put the J4 version through the JED Checker, it is obvious that the J4 version has a number of incompatibilities.

I have I hope downloaded the latest available version.
Its here: https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/zh-googlemap/

The readme files says:

This is package of extension Zh GoogleMap package, and it contains both versions for Joomla! - 3.x and 4.x

Unzip this archive and install appropriate version.

for 3.x version use zip file: pkg_zhgooglemap-j3-x.x.x.x-final.zip
for 4.x version use zip file: pkg_zhgooglemap-j4-x.x.x.x-final.zip
where x.x.x.x - the latest version of extension for correspondent Joomla's release

This package contains component, plugin, module
The template for full screen map is also included.

All extensions support autoupdate feature.

Extension forum: http://forum.zhuk.cc
Documentation: http://wiki.zhuk.cc
Main author site: http://zhuk.cc

So it is J5 compatible not J5 native.

That is not the case. 'Compatible' in terms used in JED means full compatibility, which is what you call 'native'. The JED has two types of Joomla 5 extensions, indicated by these two badges:

Compatible with J5
J5-Compatible.png

Compatible with J5 (with b/c plugin)
J5-with-Compatibility-Plugin.png

Zh GoogleMap should have been in the latter category.

The compatibility badge is selected by the developer of the extension. The JED team does not verify the selection. That is why several third party extensions can claim to be J5 compatible, when, in fact, they still require the Compatibility Plugin, 'Behaviour - Backward Compatibility', before they can run. Therefore, if you would like the website to have only fully compatible J5 extensions, use the JED Checker as the arbiter, before installing third party extensions.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Last night I was thinking that a J5C badge was required . . . and it already exists ! But I did not know. It needs to be publicized.

I will add it to my TDOCGMAP Plugin JED Description soon.

Thanks for the advice

Good! Go to JED and select 'Browse Extensions' from the menu and you can select between the two types of J5 extensions.
