Front end Edit buttons missing

Post by dagroupinc » Wed Feb 26, 2025 3:24 pm

When a user with an 'editor' profile logs into the front end of the website they used to see the EDIT button next to every article on tour news landing page of the web site. Now (I believe after an update or migration) we don't see the EDIT button on the news landing page but it only appears it if we click thru to view a specific article (Joomla 5.2.4)

Wondering if anyone else is seeing this? Is it a bug? Is there a new setting/config? Is there a fix?

Thanks in advance

If it is a suspected bug please report it to https://issues.joomla.org

In Global Config you can enable/disable front-end editing. Make sure it's enabled, or else, give the Editor group back-end access. They will only see there what they need for the 'Editor' function.

Yes front-end editing has been active for this and previous versions of Joomla. However the UI has changed since a recent update. More of a UX annoyance forcing editors to take extra steps. Thanks.

A Murray — FYI even with front-end editing turned on the EDIT button only appears when you are in an article. Before this, that button appeared with every article appearing on our news landing page.

The issue appears to be directly related to BLOG pages that display multiple articles. On those pages the EDIT button does not appear until you enter the actual article. The EDIT button does appear on views where Joomla displays an article.

UPDATE: Appears to be a Gantry 5 / Helix template issue.

would you not get conflicts using two different frameworks simultaneously - Gantry and Helix? Each has its own framework and separate set of templates that are designed to work with them.

I misspoke — not using Gantry on this site, just Helix
