restoring Akeeba Backup of Version 5.1 hangs

Post by rgtr » Sun Apr 28, 2024 2:02 pm

Hi
Just upgraded a couple of sites to 5.1 and made a brand new 5.1 installation.

I have used Akeeba for donkeys years, and restored using Kickstart

On the 5.10 backups, when restoring, the unzip works fine, but the database restoration stalls after the checks.

Any ideas . . .

Richard

It might help us to know which version of Akeeba Backup and which version of Kickstart you're using. Is it the same for all the sites you are attempting to restore? Did you use Akeeba's MagicEraser to remove obsolete extensions and files?

That’s not my experience restoring to XAMMP from live site using current Akeeba Backup core and Kickstart 8.0.4

Suspect a server set-up/compatibility issue but it will be like finding a needle in a haystack without more info. Does the environment that you’re restoring to meet the J5.1.0 tech specs?

FPA would help.

John V

You say . . . Suspect a server set-up/compatibility issue but it will be like finding a needle in a haystack
Me too.

I guess this post is more of an advisory. Nothing appears to be very stable ! Bit like Scottish Politics !

Am going the remove XAMPP and Reinstall. I have Windows 11 Pro on an HP Machine 32Gb RAM and 852Gb Storage

Using Kickstart 8.04, Akeeba 9.9.2, PHP 8.2.4, XAMPP Control Panel v3.3.0 , Apache/2.4.56 (Win64)
I have had these problems since Dec 22 when I got this pc. It has HP Wolf Security

My bro gets a similar new machine, and immediately has the same problems !

Win 11 + XAMPP just seems to be a dodgy coupling. I run as services, and with "run as administrator" as well.

I would recommend Wampserver over Xamp on win 11.Much more reliable and configurable.

Hi all

Usual story !

Remove and reinstall and all goes Ok !

I am reminded of the "Jaguar Joke". Man in jag breaks down on motorway. Jaguar support says "remove engine, and reinstall - do NOT change anything - it will then work".

Noted that after installation the icon does not display properly until a reboot.

GWS

Sadly Wamp does not support higher versions of PHP !

I tried it. Maybe I should not be an "early adopter".

Scotland IS now leaderless ! But that will not change anything . . . especially ferries etc.

Wamp supports all versions of php? You can also run php in FCGI if you need it, https if needed. Multiple different DB's

you need to install the PHP modules if WAMP doesn't have it (and perhaps 3.3.0 didn't include it because PHP 8.3 is so new). WAMPServer 3.3.4 does include it. You can update the WAMP application (without having to reinstall and risk wiping out all your sites): on this site, https://wampserver.aviatechno.net/ next to the large blue "Updates" button is a link for the update *.exe file. (latest version is 3.3.5).

The PHP module downloads are further down the page. Make sure you choose the 64 bit download if running WAMP 64 bit.

Also check that you have all the runtime C++ files. You can download the entire package that reinstalls all of them. WAMP installer will not run if the runtimes are not all installed.

AM
Thanks for that.
Downloading now.
I am unable to find out how to configure WAMP to enable a different directory for my sites.

create folders in the "c:\wamp64\www" folder.

"c:\wamp64\www\site1"
"c:\wamp64\www\site2"
"c:\wamp64\www\site3"

A subfolder for each website you create.

Then optionally, create virtual hosts within the Wamp system.

This duplicates how it would work on your live web hosting.

In addition to the configuration of Apache virtual hosts in Wampserver, it is also possible to access the test sites through dummy domain names by adding them into the hosts file: c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and then access them directly, without using 'localhost' and the name of the alias directory, for example: http://joomla44/administrator

Code: Select all

#
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
127.0.0.1 joomla3
127.0.0.1 joomla44
127.0.0.1 joomla5
127.0.0.1 joomla51
127.0.0.1 joomla52
127.0.0.1 joomla6
