Switching Templates

Post by smartymarty1234 » Mon Nov 11, 2024 4:02 pm

Hello - I previously built websites with "other" CMS packages but I am new to Joomla (this is my first attempt so its a really steep learning curve).

The site is working with the default / demo content and I am gradually getting my head around putting my own content and modules into place. I have also installed a 3rd party template and it shows in the admin backend at System > Site Templates. However, I cannot see where I set this as the default skin for the site and the online documentation that I have so far found seems to relate to previous iterations of Joomla.

Taking things slightly further, I new template arrived with a nested zip file containing demo content but I keep getting a range of errors, no install options and nothing like the Cassiopeia demo content.

Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Martyn

Welcome to Joomla!

System > Site Template Styles > click on the icon below "Default"

To view all the Module positions in your current template:
System > Site Template Styles > click on "Options" at the top right,
set "Preview Module Positions" to "Enabled"
Go to the front-end of your site and add ?tp=1 to display all module positions

It could be a 'quickstart' package that installs like Joomla but with an extra Template. Or it could be several Templates in which case you need to unzip it and install the Templates individually.

Are you testing on localhost?

Its on a concealed subdomain of a live site - that way I can find out what works in a real environment and what doesn't

Localhost is a real environment and imho is easier than testing on a remote server. With wamp localhost you don't need to setup a new database each time you install a fresh Joomla (the installer does that on wamp). There are many other as well but its your choice.
