500 errors after J5 update done by Softaculous Topic is solved

I'm getting the same 500 error as JohnWNZ after upgrading from 4.4 to 5.0. I do not have JCH installed.

Fortunately right now this only impacts a couple sites I use for testing.

But I can't upgrade any client sites until this is resolved.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Quick followup: Because I have cPanel access, I was able to use Softaculous to upgrade. Softaculous said I already had the latest version but offered the "forcefully upgrade" option, which resolved the issue for me.

The last screenshot is confusing. Is the website still Joomla 5 after this "forceful update"?

Those 500 or internal server errors are normally caused by incompatible third party extensions or failed updates.
It is possible to find out the root cause behind a 500 error by setting Error Reporting to 'Maximum', turning on 'Debug System', selecting 'Log Almost Everything' in the Global Configuration and then accessing the page or repeating the sequence to reproduce the error. Post the log file administrator/logs/everything.php here for advice.

Alternatively, edit the file configuration.php with the following values:

To clarify what happened:

• I Initially installed the J4! sites using softaculous
• All subsequent updates were perfomed through the Joomla admin panel
• After updating from 4.4 to 5.0, I received the 500 error when trying to access the admin panel
• So I tried to update update through cPanel/Softaculous
• Softaculous indicated I was trying to update to a site that was already updated
• But also presented me with the option to "forcefully update"
• After selecting this option, the site was (re)updated, and I was able to access the admin panel
