Problems upgrading from 4.4.2 to 5.0.2 on one server

Post by LAMF » Mon Feb 12, 2024 11:44 am

Hi,
I have upgraded some of my joomla sites from v 4.4.2 to 5.0.2 just recently. Last one 5 minutes ago withjout any issues.
But I have one site residing on another server.
PHP version is 8.2.13 on the successful server that has nbo issues.
On the other it is 8.2.15 and with similar allowed upload size of files.

So when I upgrade I go the regular way I think, I just go to the System/Upgrade/Joomla and then I click on the upload manually link (I don't know exactly in english how it say as I am usig Swedish all over).
Then I upload the 5.0,2 zip packet and start by toggling the I am prepared etc... and trhen Upload and install button and it all works just fine.
But on the server that it doesn't work on I get an error message instead like this:
"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

I have been spoken to the host admin and they have created a clone site that I can use to experiment with but this happens all the time.
I have even uninstalled the Admin Tools component.
What can be wrong?

The regular way is to go to the Joomla Update Options and set the update Channel to Joomla Next.

First, when on Joomla 4.4.2, follow the advice of richard67 (or wait for J4.4.3):
https://issues.joomla.org/tracker/jooml ... ent-768138
This will fix the Extension Pre-update check.
Without this fix the Pre-Update Check displays no extensions and says all is okay, even if it's not.

Then go to the Joomla Updater and open the Options.
Set the Update Channel to Joomla Next and click Save.

Joomla will then do a Pre-Update check.

Follow the advice given here...

After the update is finished set the Update Channel back to Default.

Thanks, I got the pre-check working and it shows no errors so I started the update process and got the same error.
So still no progress for my site on that server.

The Upload and Update is a perfectly allowable method. Isn't that what the OP is saying he used?

Don't know what this long post by Polandalemblar has to do with this but it is solved.
I did a clone site on my working server and installed it there and made an akeeba backup oif it and uploaded it to the server with issues and installed it there and now it works.
Still don't know why that server didn't support the upgrade though.

Seems this "polandelmblar" has hijacked this thread, that's all. The OP (yourself) didn't post your own FPA because you have now said the issue is resolved.

I think @Javesey has misread the FPA as having been posted by yourself @LAMF (in response to his request for the FPA) but @polandalemdar has instead hijacked this thread, posted his own FPA without explanation (has been reported, pending assessment by the Moderators).

Sorry... :-[

My advice to @polandalemdar still stands, though ;)
