Joomla update problem 5.0.2 php supports

Hi

My problem comes while updating joomla 5.0.2 to 5.0.3
I get this error: Joomla Update encountered a server error when applying the update to your site.
(so I see the update in ftp but it wont run)

I did the FPA and it points at the php.
I dont understand as I seem to have same php and setting for this site as other sites which did update joomla fine.
The 3 problems the fpa tell me (red marked) are:
Server suExec available
PHP Session Path Writable
PHP Supports J! 5.0.2 (PHP v8.3.1)

What does this mean? the php v8.3.1 should work?

PHP 8.3.1 would seem to be the problem. Drop back to 8.2 (or update to 8.3.3). The current recommended PHP version is 8.2, so I would stick with that. (ref: https://manual.joomla.org/docs/next/get ... uirements/)

In fact your FPA tells you exactly that:

Saying the above it may mean it's an extension that is not compatible, not necessarily Joomla itself, but the above in the FPA suggests otherwise. Also, PHP 8.3.3 is the latest, try updating to that and see if it works? (Reference: https://www.php.net/ChangeLog-8.php#PHP_8_3)

Other issues as well:
FPA wrote: LiveSite: Is Not Empty
should not have a value, should be an empty variable $live_site = ''; (two single quotes, no space).

Php didnt solve problem, changing live site either but now waiting for webhotel concerning the ”Session Path Writable: No” issue.

What do you mean by:

Is your site currently working normally with 5.0.2?

Hi Ceford, I mean this: I can see the Joomla 5.0.3 zip-packet in the folder public_html/tmp but running the update as normal in joomla always stops with this error: "Joomla Update encountered a server error when applying the update to your site." In the admin I can update extensions eventhough in the overview in "Notifications" the fields are all redmarkec: (Backup out of date, Unknown Joomla, Unknown extensions etc). In system/information I find this warning: "The PHP temporary folder is not set" but I read in phorum that it shouldn't matter?

So something wrong. I hope somebody knows a reason from the details above. Frontend works, but I cant update joomla and also the red marks and the warning on the PHP temporay folder

Can you look near the end of your PHP error log for a stack trace?

Did you empty $live_site in configuration.php?

Did you open your browser Developer Tools to look for console/JavaScript errors?

Hello - I am sorry this took so long

1. I have asked my provider for PHP error log but no answer yet. Seems like I cant see it myself (?) so I wait for that.

2. yes I did emty live site in configuration.php as described.
No effect. When I try to update joomla the update comes to /public_html/tmp, but wont run. I get errror:
"Joomla Update encountered a server error when applying the update to your site."

3. I am newbee in programming so not sure. But in developer tools I see this error: Error: request failed with status 404 Resurs-URL: https://www.friterapi.info/media/vendor ... n.js?3.4.1

Does it give sense?

4. I ran the FPA again and got these orange marks:

LiveSite: Is Not Empty. Absolutely needs to be empty.

Here comes 3 screenshots. When starting update there is a glimpse of the normal Joomla update line (to fast to catch in photo) but then comes the error message.

Webdongle, when you writhe: "jquery not loading might be because of the t4_bs5_blank", do you mean that the template is the problem? What can I do as this template is widely used and should work ok?

Webdongle: I tried changing template to T4 Template Blank - Default but that didnt help either.

THANKS webdongle, gws and ceford !!! yes live site was problem.

i was in good faith as I upploaded new configuration with empty live site and updated, but what i didnt see was that it didnt happen, it was still the old file. I couldnt overwrite (dont understand why), but I could delete it.
Then I uploaded configuration.php with the empty live site. So solution was to make: public $live_site = ''; in the configuration.php file

Wonderfull jobb you do.

configuration.php has permissions set to 444 by Joomla. When you make a change in Global Configuration Joomla changes the permissions to 644, saves the new configuration values and then changes the permissions back to 444.

Depends on server settings and server permission settings. Config is set to '644', and nothing wrong with that. No need to change to '444'

Depends on server settings and server permission settings. Config is set to '644', and nothing wrong with that. No need to change to '444'
If you step through the writeConfigFile function in administrator/components/com_config/src/Model/ApplicationModel.php you will see Joomla change the permissions of the configuration.php file from 444 to 644 (if the script owns the path), save the data, and then change the permissions again to 444. This explains why the OP could not overwrite the original configuration.php (by ftp or with a file editor).

Because it is 444 (read only Owner, Group, Public) so it can't save unless you set it 644.
