Migration from Joomla 4 to Joomla 5
Hello.
After several months of working on upgrading from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4, I finally managed to change our Joomla version in our live site.
How complicated is it to update a Joomla 4 website to Joomla 5?
Thanks.

With J5's backward compatibility plugin J4 extensions should work. So it should be fairly straightforward.

Updating from J4 to J5 should be fairly easy, almost like a normal update.
Make a backup of your site and install it locally on your computer, using WAMP or MAMP, etc.
https://docs.joomla.org/Copying_a_Joomla_website
Update the local site first and see for yourself.
This way you'll get familiar with the update proces and you'll know what you can expect.
And if something does go wrong, nothing is lost.

So long as you’re on J4.4.x and have the b/c plugin enabled it’s nothing more than a routine update would be. I had no issues whatsoever.
Obviously, make sure that your web-environment meets the technical requirements (particularly in respect of the database) and take a backup first
