Ability to use a different default home page when users logged in - like Nomad

Post by EmilyB » Wed Feb 28, 2024 5:11 pm

Is there any component that is compatible with Joomla5x that does the same job as:

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/nomad-pro/

The developers stopped updating it at Joomla 3 unfortunately.

This basically allows us to make another page in our website the home page when a user is logged in. Users are frustrated that if the close their browser then come back to it, even though they are logged in, it defaults to open the main home page.

Currently we have a redirect after login, so that bit is fine.

Nomad allowed you to swap the http://www.mysite.com for one of your choice (in our case: http://www.mysite.com/dashboard) whilst a user is logged in.

So if they closed the browser without clearing it, then reopened it (and the session was still live) it would automatically open http://www.mysite.com/dashboard and not the normal homepage.

I wish this was a built in option within Joomla, it makes no sense to have to have the default home page when logged in.

The Nomad plugin is just a single PHP file so if there isn't a solution, would it be feasible to have this plugin replicated to work for Joomla 5? I have attached it
plg_sys_nomad-3.2.zip

Found this one, seems to do what Nomad does: https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... home-page/

The developer, https://extensions.joomla.org/profile/p ... ls/539576/ looks like he's forked a couple of Michael Richey's original extensions for J4/J5 compatibility. Perhaps make contact with the developer, see if he can adapt Nomad for you?

Closing the browser should delete the session cookie - so the user is logged out. Check!

The Session is closed, but Cookie is still present. To be logged in again with the Cookie, two conditions must bet met.

1) The User must have ticked the "Remeber Me " at login.

2) The Authentication Cookie plugin must be enabled.

Hi both,

thank you for your responses. The techjoomla one works beautifully with Joomla 5x it is absolutely perfect. Now browsing on mobile feels like an app.

I have set the cookie lifetime to quite long and now with the above app it provides a much better all round joomla experience :)

Exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much for your help and hope others find it useful.
