Alternative to EasyBlog
I've used EB for years, but recently, they sold out to another company. Since then, support has been poor. Currently, the component is throwing multiple errors every time a post is viewed. The error log is growing at around 0.25Mb every view, meaning, for busy sites, it can get to 1-3Gb in no time at all. I've been asking for a fix for over 3 months and they keep "fixing" it, but it never does. So over this.
What is everyone else using for blogs (on Joomla 5)?

Hi,
Would you be so kind as to share your approach for transferring content in the scenario where an alternate extension is available, considering the absence of a migration feature from EasyBlog?
Thanks

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
Hadn't thought too far ahead on that. I have a clever SQL friend who can probably write a script to do it. Not as elegant as a purpose-built importer, but it'll only be a oncer.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
Well, since Joomla has tag functionality, maybe is it enough to use standard Joomla articles?
Social share buttons and image plugins can be added too. If there is another features that need to be presented like "vote for article", then it's possible to find such a plugin.

trogladyte - What extension did you choose in the end?
I've used Easyblog on a couple of sites before and need similar for a couple of new sites but I don't really want to go back to Stackideas after some bad experiences. Thanks.

You might want to check out RSBlog from RSJoomla. It has been around for quite a bit and allows you to import/export Joomla articles as well as post new blog entries via email. I've used it on a few sites. No connection to RSJoomla other than using their products for many years.

I finally forced Stackideas into fixing their broken product. Terrible support since they were sold, but at least it's now working correctly.
I used to use RSJoomla till they shafted me over $20. Never again. They've lost hundreds of my subscription dollars over that $20. Companies just don't learn how to give support.

Thanks both, I appreciate it.
I did look at RSBlog (we've used RSForms for a long time) but it looks a bit dated.
If you've managed to get them to fix Easyblog then maybe we'll go with that, I can't seem to find a better alternative.

Where is this fix for EasyBlog? I also see lots of errors after upgrading Joomla to 4.x, php to 8x, and EasyBlog to 6.0.11trogladyte wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 4:58 pm I finally forced Stackideas into fixing their broken product. Stackideas support has told me for a month that they're fixing it but I have not seen any work actually done.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
I did just install RSBlog and used its plugin to import a couple hundred posts from EasyBlog. Took less than fifteen minutes to install and get configured, and seconds to perform the import. It worked mostly well, importing the EasyBlog posts' content including text and images, author name linked to userID, creation date, and category. It did not appear to import the posts' cover images nor comments.
There is a batch option to export the posts from RSBlog to Joomla articles though I have not tried that yet.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
I’ve used the batch export feature with no problem. I also like how RSBlog has a feature allowing you to email submissions that post automatically.
Now if I could find a way to migrate from Stackidea’s EasyDiscuss to Kunena!

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
Hi Good to read this because I am in the same doubt to change from Easyblog to RSBlog, but the most important question.... was it easy to find out how it works, to import the blogs of easyblogs to RSBlog? And did you have also different categories?adoucette wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 1:24 amI did just install RSBlog and used its plugin to import a couple hundred posts from EasyBlog. Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
This was easy going out of the box to import EasyBlog Posts to RSBlog. You can even export RSBlog Posts after that to Joomla Blog Posts. This is good work from RSJoomla!
Of course RSBlog migrates EasyBlog Posts to regular texts without Blocks and if you are using a lot of EB Goodies and Possibilities it may look different after importing. For example a Gallery Block with 4 Photos is going to be just these Photos one under the other. Unfortunately it really does not import Cover Images.
And one thing, if somebody was subscribed to your EB Blog, they might get info mails for each imported posts on your site….But what do I say, this option to subscribe to a blog is very important to me and it seems to work well in RSBlog…;)
Overall i am not sure, if I am going to RS Joomla because, it is just a step from one third party to another. I wished there was a subscribe to blog feature in Joomla Core, then I would not hesitate to use it as it is
PS: Yes it imports categories and subcategories.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
RSblog seems like a great way to migrate out of easyblog and escape the lock-in . But is it worth it as a blogging component? The design looks old and I saw most of their videos are from 2014...
Is it just a way to get out of easyblog or would you actually use it for a larger site (600 or so articles). As an alternative, I'm considering using the joomshaper blogging functions included in their templates and just using RSblog to migrate out of easyblog and then into standard joomla articles.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
I migrated from EasyBlog to RSBlog, and tried to use RSBlog for a few weeks but had a number of problems with it. Also agree it didn't look better on the front end than standard Joomla articles.
I ended up just using Joomla Articles in a category blog.
BUT I was happy to pay for RSBlog's code to help me make that transition.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
Hello, since the Joomla 5.2.4 update yesterday, I am unable to start a NEW POST in Easyblog on any site. I have someone else on another server in the same situation as well. Definitely not a localized problem to my setup. Tried on my 3 sites and someone else who also uses Joomla and Easyblog with the same versions is also unable to as well.
When you click NEW POST, this is the error that pops up.
An error has occurred.
400 Unable to store post.
I just tested and restored my last backup from 5.2.3 and Easyblog NEW POST works, then I updated Joomla to 5.2.4 and the error gets thrown and NEW POST no longer works. So definitely something to do with Joomla 5.2.4 update that is affecting Easyblog.

Waited for over 3 weeks for a fix but keep getting, we're working on it, or sorry, we're on holidays here...
Now I am getting the 400 Unable to store post as well.
Just cancelled my Stack auto renewal.
I am in the process of moving sevearal blog customers to the article system for their blog posts. EB is dead to me now.
Sadly, I have not found a way to export the EB posts so I can import them into an article, but I keep looking.

Well pls let us know if they still going to fix this or not bcs thats a pity if this small issue should have such a big impact to not use EasyBlog.cspgsl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 7:28 pm Waited for over 3 weeks for a fix but keep getting, we're working on it, or sorry, we're on holidays here...

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
It isn't just the latest small issue that has me cancelling. Now there is a probelm with Joomla 5.2.5 when I try to create a new post.
An error has occurred. 400 Unable to store post.
It's evident to me that something is amiss. When you look at the Help Desk, the frequency of posts has dried up. Either everything is working perfectly, or they are losing customers in record numbers. I'm betting on the later.
I don't wish to waste anyone's time for if I go on with all of the elements I have been experiencing, it will just sound like a rant. Suffice to say that I have been developing Joomla sites since 2008 and have been a Stack Ideas customer since 2011. Everyone has to make their own choice regarding their own experience with EasyBlog, and I have made mine.

Re: Alternative to EasyBlog
Hey cspgsl,
here is the fix:
With RSBlog you can import EasyBlog Posts and then work with RSBlog. If you prefer to do it with Joomla articles in future, then you can export RSBlog Posts to Joomla articles: https://www.rsjoomla.com/joomla-extensi ... -blog.html
here is the fix:
Code: Select all
In SQL Database there is a table "`#__easyblog_post"
In this table there is a field "document" that doesn't have a default value for "Standard"
Go to edit this value in your database and choose "Null" from the value popup, then save.
Voila, after that you should be able to post again in backend and frontend.

Thanks Mac.
I had searched for that error without success. Guess I just didn't go deep enough. One would think it would be a sticky on their help desk, but no.
I considred RS Blog, but now my goal is to move away from 3rd party reliance, especialy with the way the US Dollar and their Administration has decimated everyone else's currency.
