VirtueMart error in J5: Joomla\CMS\HTML\HTMLHelper Select not found

Apparently this subject is still a problem.

Here is the error: An error has occurred.

500 Joomla\CMS\HTML\HTMLHelper Select not found.

To reproduce the error:
Select Virtuemart from Components
Select Taxes and Calculations
Select "any" of the "Rules" that have been created and you are met with the above error.

I have not been able to reproduce the same or any other errors in any other part of the site.
It would seem logical to state that this is "either" VM or J5, and I'm leaning towards VM failing to update a plugin for too long and now it's disrupting Joomla functionality.

I have gone through everything I can imagine, but that leaves a lot of stoned unturned that I would not have considered would be related.

This installation uses J5.0.3 with VM 4.2.6 10972

This site is extensive. Meaning, until I can find a "fix" I cannot move forward. There are already thousands of "child" products in addition to parent products. So if there is something I have to replace, it's not logical to continue with the parts of the site that work. Doing so will simply add hundreds more child products to which I would need to open each one individually to make minor changes - if necessary.

I can't get a response from VM after now 3 weeks, even though I'm a paying member, and I need to do whatever possible to find a resolve.

If this is something that needs to be addressed for Joomla, fine.
If it's specific to VM, then I know you may not be able to help.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can start unpublishing plugins for VM and see if that will help me drill down to the specific problem.

Any other thoughts?

You made a backup before the update?

You probably have a joomlart plugin or module that is not compatible.
If you can access a terminal you can find the culprit by grepping it :

The easiest way to upgrade to J5 would be to restore a backup and then deactivate the plugins/module if you don't use them.

If you use them keep J4 and wait till they have an update.

VirtueMart 4.x is compatible with Joomla 4.x.
To run the component on Joomla 5 you need VirtueMart 5.x.

Virtuemart for J4 is free but virtuemart for J5 is membership only. That is a little awkward for many users who want to update Joomla to J5

Oh, true. VM for Joomla 5 is available for bronze members at the moment and I though it is ver.5. But it is 4.2.6 (Joomla 5) while ver.4.2.4 for Joomla 4. It was my fault, sorry.

THUS VM 4.2.4 SHOULD WORK WITH JOOMLA 5 - And yet it does not work with Joomla 5.

Can it really be that one needs to buy VM for it to work on the active version of Joomla (thus making it payware)?

First, there is no such thing as VM 5. Trust me. I've been communicating / working with Max for the last few days. When I mentioned this thread to him he laughed and sent me THE most recent update on which he's been working...4.2.8.10999

Second, the site on which we have been working is J5 - as are all of my current projects with Joomla.

So if you are having issues with J5, I recommend you shut down plugins that are installed and review your system without anything other than J5 and VM active to track down the culprit that's causing your site to fail or cause whatever problems you have, @Kampp.

I have VM in at least 3 sites using J5. I don't have problems that anybody else would have. I only HAD 1 issue with a plugin "from" VM that hadn't been updated in a while. Max updated that and all is well.

1 more very important point.
If you have "not" updated Virtuemart, you WILL have to pay for the update. VM is no longer free. If you "read" the packages - https://virtuemart.net/download - you will see that the "Free" version is only the "old" version for J3 and J4.
If you want the latest version, or wish to upgrade, you'll need to purchase a membership.
Don't expect something to work because it "used" to work with a previous version of Joomla. J5 is a big change and the software you use in J5 "must" be compatible.

Which version of vm are you using? the free or paid for?

The "only" version you can get now, unless you have reason to use the "old" version with "old" Joomla, is the paid version.

You may not be able to get that specific version just yet, but you'll get 4.2.8.10xxx
