Correct, beta's will be released until the major issues are fixed after which release candidate 1 will be released.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
Personally, I like the timed cycle. No impatience here, take as long as necessary to achieve a quality product.
I'm making use of the time by:
1. familiarizing myself with the new functions in the API
2. updating my extensions to work with 1.6
3. experimenting with new features
4. writing new extensions
5. reporting bugs (not so much lately though)
All of my latest 1.5 extensions were developed in 1.6 and re-written to function within 1.5 and released.
I have one major extension that I'd like to release shortly after 1.6 goes final. I have a lot of work left to do though, so I really don't mind the continued betas.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
Suggestion for 1.6
When using 1.5 there is this annoying small problem which causes me (and probably lots of other developers out there) to spend time searching through modules which have the same title to find one in specific to that page.
Were working on a college website with loads of different courses, the title of the latest news module needs to be Courses, however there are lots of different levels. It would be good to allow you to create a custom description of that module which does not appear in the title of the module on the front end. So in module manager it would have:
Module name, Module Description, Enabled, Order
Courses_____Level 1 English______yes _____1
Courses_____Level 1 English______yes _____1
Something like this or similar would help structure out module manager better I think.
I hope something like this is released in 1.6, Can't see it as of yet however I can see you can apply all pages to a module except one which is something I really needed.
Loving the new 1.6

DUDE! You can already do that!SiJoom wrote:custom description of that module
When editing your module settings, fill in the "Note" field. This field is displayed (if it's not empty) in the administrator module list, but not in the front-end.
Magic, huh? The core developers knew you were going to ask for that.
Now if it only had multiple category support for articles....... Just kidding - I don't want to bring up that subject again!

Re: joomla 1.6 beta 8 question
No. Beta version should not be implemented in a production environment. Wait for at least the Release Candidate.

The beta WILL support upgrading the final version? because most software will only support upgrading on RC's and higher

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
Not officially, though if there are database changes they will be available in /installation/sql/mysql. For the rest you can just copy over the files when final is released.

I don't need, Extensions, plugins or module. I just want to use Joomla. Can I start building my new site with Joomla 1.6 which I will set until January 2011 online?

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
If you have to ask this question, I'd stick with 1.5. There is no guarantee that 1.6 will have been released by then.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
With Joomla releases there are no guarantees with release dates, nor should it be relied upon . There is no migration tool, and not a release candidate yet (of which there might be more than one). And fall for the nothern hemisphere starts in about two weeks.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
any database change in beta9?
Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
There is one row that is changed, but no structure changes. Super Users is now a direct child of the Public group versus being under the other admin groups.katim110 wrote:any database change in beta9?
Note: This is just the core installation SQL, I didn't look at the Sample Data, though that has changed a bit over the last 3 months.

The Meta Keywords in the Metadata Options work just as well...don't they?I-MAG wrote: I have to say though, that I'm disappointed fro not seeing a built-in tagging system in it just as the case with wordpress.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
There were plugins in 1.5 that made keywords function like tags. The same will probably become available for 1.6 eventually.Quasaur wrote:The Meta Keywords in the Metadata Options work just as well...don't they?

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
Like many, I'm very excited for the upcoming release of 1.6.
I have installed the most recent BETA release on my localhost, and have a question regarding user privileges and files.
I understand you can set different groups/levels to handle Articles, Modules and Menu Items, but can you give permissions to files such as PDF's?
Thanks
Steve

You will need a 3rd party extension for that.

Re: Discuss: Joomla 1.6 Beta Released
I have installed 1.5 Beta 10 on a development iste and have looked at the DB structure and noticed a few differences. If I am reading this post and others correctly, I can dump the 1.5.x tables into my 1.6 deve database and then run the three scripts in the /sql/mysql/ directorty. What is the order they should be run in?

This will not be enough to do a migration, there is no migration method as of yet. Not only the structure changed, also the content.

What was the issue of not including it, especially since the Section->Category->Artcile functionality was redone?
Do you want to be able to associate a content item (artlcle) with more than 1 category in Joomla!?
