To all my colleagues in the Bug Squad and other contributors(!) A Big THANKS! We did it again (!). A fabulous new release with a lot of solutions and newly added functions!

We have achieved a lot but I would like to express my personal gratitude to Nicholas of Akeeba who created the new upgrade methodology for Joomla 2.5.4, which is based on his tremendous successful Admin tools functionality and I am pleased and proud of him that he has been able to share a highly successful Akeeba-product with the community and adapt the suggestions made in all discussions we had with him on the different platforms.

@ Nicholas.... When we meet in Europe one day I do definitely buy you a couple (not jut one!) beers!

Thanks all Contributors: Job well done!

Just reporting absolute disaster, after upgrading to 2.5.4 (from 2.5.3). Was working on upgrading another site at the same time, so I'm not 100% of the sequence of things, but while it worked okay on one site, on another it completely wiped the values of the all the important files. That is, every Joomla file now has a filesize of zero. This includes my Akeeba backups, so I have nothing. Have to start from scratch. I think I have a backup from 10 weeks ago. This is not the first time. Might have had something to do with a RocketTheme Admin template. Seem to remember a connection with that last time too (but then again maybe not). I have no idea of how to replicate it, so this is just an exasperated rant. Had to do a rebuild last time. Only lost a week then. Didn't know how top protect myself then, so now I'm the ding-dong who's had to deal with it twice.

Hi
I'm experiencing some javascript issues after upgrading from 2.5.3 to 2.5.4.

I use this script for a printerfriendly popup. Now the popup doesn't work.

Code: Select all

<a title="Print" onclick="JavaScript:popitup('PRINTAREA');" rel="nofollow">PRINT</a>
<div id="PRINTAREA">

Same errors as exoduser

Done upgrade via admin > update = error
Done upgrade manual with link = error

OOops! Database schema version (2.5.3-2012-03-13) does not match CMS version (2.5.4).
Solution: Use the FIX button >> Database table structure is up to date.

Always always always keep a copy (or several) of your backups outside the site folder. On a different server/PC when possible. Lesson for you, me, and everyone else reading this.

Having said that, this is a horrible thing that happened to you and I hope it gets solved soon.

Hello,
There are big problems with this update and I recomend to everyone to avoid update until the problems has been fixed.

People can t access to admin panel, getting differents response. Someone white screens and others (like me), without access at all.
Problems were reported here and here.

To the Joomla Development team:

These sort of problems some are facing sound very serious. Additionally, respected developers are often criticizing important Joomla features (like the installer/updater) as being "broken" for several releases in a row. A lot is at stake here, including the Joomla reputation.

I strongly believe that you should consider a public BETA/RC cycle before releases are declared final. An extra week or two of delay before the next stable release is not a lot to ask for, in exchange for safer and more functional releases.

Thanks.

Please note hat new functionalities in new releases are extensively tested by a large group of developers and users in the Joomla Bug Squad as well as on Joomlacode before being committed into a release.

We test on different and multiple platforms and when we experience good results from testing we sign off for release.

The new updater has been working within Akeeba Admin Tools for many years and we have tested this feature which is now incorporated as Joomla Updater in the components (!) extensively and it is working well for future updates.

When you upgrade Joomla 2.5.3 to 2.5.4 you still work with the "old' Joomla upgrader, the same you might have used to upgrade from 2.5.2 to 2.5.3. Nothing has changed for you in the upgrade procedures in this release yet. It just installs a new updater which will come into effect upon the next 2.5.5 or higher Joomla version (!)

So all the critics on the new updater are not applicable since the new updater will only come into play for the next release....

Just to clarify all wrong perceptions posted so far!

Why does that has anything to do with a Joomla upgrade? Nothing!

It has a lot to do with the upgrade since it worked in 2.5.3 and not in 2.5.4, and no other changes were made than the upgrade. I thought maybe you were interested in some feedback about the experiences we got during the upgrade ???

Is there any updates to the login window issue? I need to do some updates to one of my sites and don't really want to go back through a backup if not necessary.

Thanks,
Jeff

The new com_joomlaupdate component doesn´t show up in my components menu in the admin area.

The component is there, I can see it if I enter the URL manually to it but it just don´t show up in my admin menu.

I updated from 2.5.3 to 2.5.4.

Since earlier I have the same problem with the com_finder component.

I have been fighting this problem for a few days. I stumbled through all of the posts and comments and came up with this. BEWARE... I am a designer and not a coder but this worked for me.

1. extracted the administrator folder from a 2.5.3 package.
2. renamed my existing administrator folder "administrator_whatever"
3. ftp'ed 2.5.3 administrator folder
..... This fixed the backend problem but stopped the front end.
4. copied "components" folder from "administrator_whatever" to the newly created administrator folder.
---Up and running.

I am sure that there is an easier way and hope that some of you coders would jump in and explain why this worked. Why did I pick the components folder... Random. Was prepared to start copying until I was back up.
