Not seen yet and we can't start one either so we just have to wait.

I have also noticed that no reputable hosts are offering PHP7 yet so what was so urgent to make 3.5. php 7 compatible? My current host is iPage and they are only offering php 5.4 so I might have to self host joomla as I can't find any hosts yet.

*sigh*

By that argument, shouldn't have bothered with PHP 5.5 or 5.6 support when they were released either since the market is so slow at upgrading (there are still "serious" sys admins running PHP 5.3.3!?!). Just a few links for reading:

- http://w3techs.com/technologies/details/pl-php/5/all - Some data about PHP version use
- http://phpversions.info/shared-hosting/ - Collection of community contributed data about the PHP versions various hosts offer
- https://www.rochen.com/blog/2015/12/merry-christmas/ - Blog post from Joomla's host noting they have rolled out PHP 7 support
- https://www.siteground.com/blog/php7-av ... d-servers/ - Blog post from Joomla's demo hosting provider noting they have rolled out PHP 7 support
- https://developer.joomla.org/about/stats.html - Data from the ever controversial stats plugin showing that that over 17% of folks beta testing Joomla 3.5 are running PHP 7

And 3.5 beta 2 was released on January 27.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

There are many hosts as Michael also pointed out that are supporting php 7 and there are much performance enhancement and more that Joomla could benefit from as for php 7 as competitor Drupal and Wordpress already doing... :geek: http://www.zend.com/en/resources/php7_infographic

If you don't want Joomla to be on these lists and have a 100% speed boost its up to you but I want Joomla and its 3pds to have php 7 yesterday not next year..I guess most Joomla sites are on slow shared hostings and need a better boost for their sites and their site visitors. So it should be a priority.

So what you two are saying is that pople who can't get PHP7 by their hosts have to go without Joomla 3.5. Is this correct?

As I understand it, J3.5 is not backwards compatible and miilions os users are still using PHP 5.4, 5.5 or 5.6 and they will have some convincing to do to their hosts to upgrade to PHP 7. Failure this, they have to stay with 3.4.8!. millions of Joomla users lost this way. Me thinks so.

Drupal and Wordpress seems to work on old phps as far as I can see. Why can't joomla developers provide some way of adapting to old php versions.

Hello,
as i understand @mbabker did n t say that you understood. Joomla 3.5 will work with older php versions from php 7 except older of php 5.3.10 as joomla 3.4 works. So they can update in the feature. He said that the most host companies in shared hosting are not update so much often that s why very few people uses php 5.7 at this time. The big problem if you see in the statistics is that the most people uses EOL and vulnerable php versions except from some very small excludes that uses extra security patches for the old versions.

OK I have now installed beta 2 on my test machine and now I need to import some real sample data into it to test it.

Ribo, are you saying that 3.5.X can be used on 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6? I am testing on 5.6.18 because that is something my webhosts can upgrade to easily but on other hosts they have 5.4, and 5.5 so I need to be prepared for them as well. Of course, I could move them but this is going to be a slow process so if I can upgrade Joomla first (when time comes, of course) then i am sure clients would see the benefit of upgrade when PHP is also upgraded.

Joomla 3.5 is compatible with PHP 5.3.10 and later, same as Joomla 3.4 and 3.3. PHP 7 did not become the only supported PHP version.

Compare it to Joomla 1.0 or 1.5. Those versions supported both PHP 4 and PHP 5. Joomla 3.5 will also support two PHP branches. The amount of effort to do this was actually rather minimal and mostly involved a couple syntax standardizations and blocking the running of the removed MySQL extension's code within Joomla (if you're using MySQLi or PDO MySQL you're fine).
So long and thanks for all the fish.

Also, I want to ask, when will the new version 3.5? Date release has been repaired many times. I very much appreciate of the whole team of Joomla development, but the endless changes in release dates are not good.

Will be Joomla 3.5 this year?

The problem is the information & communication.

It would be better to just update people on Joomla.org whats going on.

Just write there info that there is a small delay bcs of this, that and people working to solve it.

Its nothing wrong its being deleyed but problem is that there should be info on front page if we have regular updates of Joomla as the most important headline of Joomla.org and that could be discussed..:)

I would prefer that these dev headlines not should be on main Joomla pages bcs developers know where to find the latest news about Joomla dl, updates etc We should have a selling point of what Joomla is with videos, demos, sharing stories of people and companies using Joomla, tutorial guides, events and latest featured magazine stories etc

Great idea Darb. Are you volunteering to do all that so the devs can get on with writing code instead of chasing around checking the information (posted by others) is correct ?

Small delay is not a problem.

But release date has been repaired many times. Only unobtrusively, without information. Thus, it is possible to overwrite the release date constantly. I know Joomla users who abandoned Joomla and now use Wordpress.

I am faithful Joomla. Since version 1.0. I recommend Joomla everywhere, also on the website. But we need more information. We must know that everything is fine and that the Joomla will not end for example as K2 extension.

I do not mind paying for Joomla, for example as an annual subscription. But I want a quality CMS. Fast and stable. The best. Voluntary work is great, but not so motivating.

I've got admin access across a majority of the web properties. I'll gladly inform the other admins they can step down from their role and leave you in charge of maintaining them and publishing content meeting your vision. You're full of ideas, so obviously you can do the job of running 30 websites much better than the dozens of folks involved in running them now.

FYI from https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/joomla-dev-cms
Since November with the first beta it was very clear that attempt to upgrade our users from UTF8 to UTF8MB4 wasn't working as well as we had hoped (despite it being deliberately merged VERY early on in the 3.5 lifecycle as we suspected it could cause issues). Since then we've been working hard with people (including Nic who contributed and Eli who is a MySQL expert) to try and fix the issues. At the moment we are hoping that the code in https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/9045 should fix these issues - however it still requires more testing.

Until the UTF8MB4 issues are fixed there is no real point in setting and pushing back release dates if fixes aren't found.... :( I'm planning on releasing a fresh beta in the next 48-72 hours (maybe sooner if we get good tests there), and if people find that the UTF8MB4 issues are reduced we can continue on with the release schedule. To the best of my knowledge the only other blocking issue is https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pu ... -174411996 (which is something I can fix in an hour or two once I've got UTF8MB4 under control).

FWIW we did consider reverting the UTF8MB4 but whilst not a security issue in itself (unlike wordpress which had a major vulnerability over this same issue). It does allow people to exploit issues more easily (as shown by the series of session issues we patched over Christmas which all exploited this lack of support/filtering through the session vulnerability) therefore we think it's important enough that it's worth solving this issue rather than reverting.

so joomla 3.5 beta 3 should be out today or at least tomorrow

How was I thinking it? In JoomlaWorks also constantly changed the release date. Now it seems that K2 is dead. Also in Joomla is constantly changing release date new version.

No we do not change constant any release date. We give a target date in the roadmap but the roadmap clearly states that this can change due to circumstances that influence releases such as security issues, code revisions, urgent feature inserts or regressions due to bugs, etc etc. Again it is dynamic and we target those dates without fixed commitment.

You cannot compare release dates rescheduling of 3rd party extensions with those of Joomla. They are not related in any form so comparisons have no merit in any form.
Only note: Joomla community they are not only Joomla! Master or Joomla! Ace, but also ordinary users.
I am fully aware of that and that is why I am here on the forums to help my fellow Joomlers.

I think for many Michael it’s important that the information is accurate and fast updated on Joomla.org as much as possible. And that's about priority. Maybe your priority is different.

This is my opinion.

Maybe you have a different understanding of that, bcs from your perspective of your role within Joomla, but things can be different for different people out in the Joomla world Michael.

Not everybody follows Joomla in all the different Joomla channels or 30 Joomla websites you are running/maintaining. If Joomla is not transparent about what’s going on how should you create trust over time for people start using Joomla or stay with Joomla? And that problem will not be solved for Joomla if you ask for doing 10 more Joomla websites and ask for more maintainers.

So it’s not about running 30 websites it’s about the importance of changing 3 lines of text on Joomla.org so the information is updated and prioritized there. Its about marketing, pr, branding, trust, engagement, activities, excitement etc

And I don’t think it’s good if people like me that have a lot of knowledge, skills and ideas too, that you maybe don’t understand, will be pulled down with your arguments Michael. It’s not good for anyone and not for Joomla as a whole also. If you are disgruntled don’t let that negative feelings go to others it’s not good.

I hope we all can continue to be positive and we all looking forward so everyone can get access to improve Joomla and not just focusing on the code but also the business model how Joomla can survive in the future. The code will always be obsolete over time and worthless if it does not bring the right business value to the table and people want to use the product in comparison with its competitors.

And this is not about having 30-40 web sites and a lot of maintainers Michael - it’s just a huge unnecessary burden for the whole Joomla community and in my opinion a wrong direction for Joomla.

Cheers!
