Please remove your last session record in yourprefix_session table and all other records, if any are present. I only had 1 record and this gave me a message my session has been expired, which is quite logical and at the second attempt I could login again and easily upgrade to 3.4.8!

Just a few observations about your describing your trouble shooting technique.

Mixing different versions of files with database version is not a good way to problem solve.

As i said i migrated both websites from joomla 2.5 a few years back maybe this is the issue don t know ...
And as I said "How did you install Joomla originally ?"

I also use 3rd party extension CleanTalk and I also used FTP to remove the extension (plugins>system>antispambycleantalk. I was then able to log into both the front end and back end of my site. I updated to Joomla 3.4.8 with no problems to report

One more thing...
I used phpMyadmin to remove only the last entry from myprefix_session table. I do not know if removing the session was necessary when removing Cleantalk as I had already removed the record when I saw the recommendation. I do know that removing the record did not hurt anything.

Once my site was updated I installed the new version of Cleantalk and the site continued to work properly.

Thanks for all the support.

Has anyone else experienced the invalid token problem AFTER the 3.4.8 update? I'm supposed to be retired. Noticed a couple of sites not being updated. Decided to "help" -- all but one are fine. But that one is locked out tight.

Has anyone found any other third party extensions causing this? I've updated cleantalk, but the problem remains. The only way to get into the site is to replace libraries->joomla->session->session.php with the 3.4.6 version. And yes, I know that is a bad solution, but the client needs this site working. (I have verified we are on php 5.6.13 at least.)

Then reinstall clean talk? I can do that. I thought this update had fixed the problem so hadn't been that thorough. I'll try and post back. Thanks!

I upgraded 51 sites last week from 3.4.6 to 3.4.7 with no issues what so ever.
Today I'm going through them all to upgrade to 3.4.8 and the first two logged me out near the end up the update process. I've stopped there in case there's something I need to be made aware of here.
I'm using the admin/Joomla update. Automatic process

You are logged out because the session.php file is updated.

Hi - not sure if this is the right place - but here goes.

I upgraded my site (wbyc.co.uk) to 3.4.8 on the 26th December. Most of it works perfectly.

However, I use Prostar templates, and I notice that the Image Module in Position-3 is rendering tiny images, whereas they used to be 'full size'. My Image Module is using an 800x77 px image.

I have compared the generated HTML in both versions, and it looks identical. Could there be an unexpected change in the style code for div.custom that has messed up the template?

@JeffAdams

How did you upload this image? Did you use a module or did you do something else?

The best way is to use a module by doing something like this:

1) Extensions >> Modules
2) Click New
3) Select Custom HTML
4) Link your image to this module
5) Save as Header-Image (or whatever)
6) Select postion-3 for the position of this module
7) Select all pages fr now to test it.
8) If it works then decide on which pages you want this image to appear by selection only on pages I select. You get the idea, I think.

At present the image is scaled down to 45 x 4px

Good luck.

I think I FTP'd the image to the filespace, and then linked to the module - when I edit the module in the backend, it looks correct - it only goes 'small' when the page is rendered in HTML. I'm confused!

Just to be clear - it was fine before the upgrade to the recent version.

I updated more than ten websites from Joomla 3.4.6 to Joomla 3.4.8. I was logged out everytime after the update and in most cases the frontpage showed up. But I have not had any problems logging in to the backend of my websites again after updating them.

Maybe looking at the error pages in the providers control panel would help to solve the problem for those who can't log in to the backend any more.

In your module you have set <div class="moduletable span1">
You have to change this to <div class="moduletable span12">

@Deleyna: Thanks for the heads up. As soon as I posted here I saw there was a new thread for 3.4.8 which I followed down and found exactly as you mentioned. I too use cleantalk. I have just deleted the DB tables for cleantalk which in my case were "DB_ct_apikey_status and DB_ct_curr_server" as well as truncated sessions and voila I can access the admin site again. Just updated cleantalk to 3.7.1 and replaced the session file with the correct one 3.4.8 and everything seems to be fine.

Just updated cleantalk to 3.7.1 and replaced the session file with the correct one 3.4.8 and everything seemed to be fine. Then I enabled cleantalk again and was hit with an error:
"Strict Standards: Only variables should be assigned by reference in /home/xyz/public_html/plugins/system/antispambycleantalk/antispambycleantalk.php on line 1060"

In searching I found an article online that stated:
"As of PHP 5, the new operator returns a reference automatically, so assigning the result of new by reference results in an E_DEPRECATED message in PHP 5.3 and later, and an E_STRICT message in earlier versions."
I followed what they mentioned might work, which was to remove the ampersand used on line 1060 before JFactory. This seems to have worked and I am no longer receiving the error. Some said to disable display_errors but I don't think that is a great solution.

That is not an error. That is just a warning and if you set in global configuration the error reporting to "none" (server tab) this would have not been displayed any longer.

That is actually a recommended setting in the setup ofd any Joomla site. Display errors should be "off" when you install Joomla

Strict standards messages can be ignored in production. Developers should be paying attention to them while working on their extensions and working to remove them.

Displaying errors should be off in production environments typically; the types of messages that get generated by PHP sometimes contain what folks consider sensitive information (full paths). For staging and development environments, they should be turned on so one can catch whatever messages/warnings/errors are being thrown and can deal with them easily.

Turning off error reporting is a "fix" for an end user, especially with strict standards messages, but it does not truly fix the underlying code issue.

That's controlled by the underlaying bootstrap system

Here is the docs from the Bootstrap project.

http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/scaffolding.html#gridSystem

Note that Joomla uses version 2.3.2 and not the latest version 3 of the framework.

Just to follow up on my issue -- removing cleantalk completely, deleting the session, and then reinstalling cleantalk worked great.

Cleantalk was the problem. Followed the procedure in the thread and it now works.
Here's my steps:
1. FTP > deleted folder plugins>system>antispambycleantalk
2. Phpmyadmin > deleted all sessions in xxx_sessions
3. Cleared browser cache > login backend successful
4. Updated to J3.4.8
5. Installed latest Cleantalk v3.7.2

All is well so far.
Thanks!

Check that the file /home/.../public_html/includes/defines.php is not corrupted or empty.
