It looks like I'm the first person to comment on the release of J! 3.8.6. I've updated my first [test] site to this version and I can't find any obvious problems with it. Thanks to all the people who worked on the update. Cheers

I upgraded to 3.8.6 without any problem with the update process but swapping my PHP version through cPanel (SiteGround hosting) to 7.2.3, gives me an unstyled back-end (using Isis template).

Returning to an earlier PHP version 7.1.15, it works properly.

In the update change log is says "7.2 compatibility issues fixed" but don't know if that fix has anything to do with this issue.

The front-end displays normally under PHP 7.2.3.

(I will post a detailed issue on Github / Issue Tracker if necessary).

UPDATE: Among the few hundred other things I managed to do today, I've successfully updated nine Joomla websites to J! 3.8.6 and not one problem (apart from an outstanding issue with news feeds that I haven't found the cause).

I was having the sessions issue with 3.8.5. What's the fix with 3.8.6? I see 2 tracker links, but no official word on how to deal with this problem? Is there a new garbage collection plugin I have to use? Implement a cron? Use PHP handling of sessions? thanks

Thanks, I did read both but I never came across what looked like a fix. Should I just install 3.8.6 and then turn on PHP session handling?

I upgraded to 3.8.6, switched to PHP session handling, and cleared my sessions. I just read so much about a PHP setting, a new plugin, or a cron that I wasn't sure if I had to follow up with one of those as well. thanks

I was very cyrious with your post so i switched a joomla website to php 7.2.3 from my server and i did nt saw such an issue. Please check what php extensions are missing in your 7.2 that you have in your 7.1

Installed 3.8.6 on around 50 sites without any issues, which is nice.
I still have an outstanding issue that was introduced into 3.8.5 which can be found here [url][https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/19750]
Quy said it would be fixed in 3.8.6 but I didn't see it in the changelog and indeed when I rolled out the update to a site with a lot of users when the User Status Administrator module is enabled the backed goes very slow.

On advice received from Brian Teeman on Github I cleaned out the sessions table and then reenabled the plugin and everything seems as speedy as usual.

So I'm hoping that it is going to be ok now.

Sorry I meant module, as I said in my first post it is the User Status Administrator module
