Update on an existing website, no problem so far (I did not implement RGPD yet...: next step).

Great job,

It looks like the Autostand component will now no longer open on the front end.

I've just updated to Joomla 3.9.0 and I ended up with the front and back ends both being inaccessible - totally blank screens. Google Chrome reported 500 error.
I've restored back to 3.8.13 using Akeeba Kickstart and web site is up and running again. However, the Backend "Global Configuration" is displayed incorrectly (as if no isis template.)

Getting there; been playing all afternoon on dev site. Already using the Invisible Re-Captcha on "live" site and other stuff (privacy, etc) will be live in next day or two. Gotta love the school holidays for getting things done - perfect timing for this release

Not had anything go wrong yet...

While apparently 3.9 updates successfully for many, it seems a lot of 3rd party extensions don't work properly. E.g. CB gives a redirect error
Perhaps a new topic should be created with these.

Update 3.9.0 all worked fine

Hi folks, just to send you our feed back, as we have a lot of article and plugins/modules,

All worked fine on 3.8.13 to 3.9.0 update this morning, there still the bug on featured article if the last article module is set to all, but that don't impact us to much, as 100% of our article are featured,

we gain some milisecond in page load 0.300s so its a great news, google will looooooveeeee it ; )

Thanks a lot to all the joomla community/team, :D

guillaume,

Just upgraded to 3.9.0
Enabled the System - Privacy Consent plugin.
After this I am locked out! Unable to log in to the backend again.

Does anyone know a solution for this?

It is unlikely enabling that plugin will lock you out. Please start a separate Topic stating exactly what you did and post the results of the fpa there.

Is this the update that is going to break my sites, as I have been told by my server host that there is no way they are making amendments to their server, just to accomodate Joomla.

please let me know, as I don't want to update anything that will break my site.

Thanks

Yes because your host obviously doesn't meet the industry standard
I have been told by my server host that there is no way they are making amendments to their server, just to accomodate Joomla.
As has been shown before you at on substandard hosting. Best we can say is back up and try it .

First of all no one knows anything about your server configuration to be sure. Also if you need php changes in your server they can use custom values for your website with custom ini file or by .htaccess(it depends from their server configuration) If they can t do this then go away and change host. Now every time you update always you back up before. The only issue that joomla 3.9.0 can break your website is if a third party extension is uncompatible yet with this joomla version, so you must contact with the creator to update it.

Only you can answer that. There's been no changes to the minimum technical requirements to run Joomla between v3.8.13 and 3.9.0

If your site breaks then it will be for another reason.

Seriously?

Get yourself a new, proper hosting company. Advice will be freely given if you ask.

Thanks for the advice people, I was referring to the post I saw in here, about a new version requiring different server specifications.. I can't remember what version it was being implemented for.. I'll keep it as it is until I get proper clarification..

I gave you proper details - no change in minimum/recommended server tech specs from v3.8.13 to 3.9.0 ;)

Joomla v4 will have a minimum requirement for PHP7+

Take a backup first with Akeeba backup stored on your server inside Akeeba admin component /backup and also download that copy to your harddisk. If things going bad you can always revert back to previous version by Akeeba program in Joomla or by ftp send files over to Joomla root to make a remote install with Akeeba kickstart files..read more at Akeeba site about backup and how to restore etc. If you do like that you are 100% safe.
