Hey sozzled

Yep tried that earlier - no joy. However, since the release of 3.9.8 everything is behaving correctly again.

Thanks, everyone, for the information (and saved me wasting my time, also). I had not attempted to update to J! 3.9.7 before reading this discussion. Cheers. 8)

@trogladyte if you don't have any french sites you don't need to update from 3.9.7 to 3.9.8.

LordRod, that is true, technically. However, I have update notifications set on every site so that means 100's of "There is an update to your site..." every day.

Yeah sadly this is a pain.

@trogladyte (and anyone else who manages hundreds of J! websites): it may pay to invest in a service like myjoomla.com.

It would also be really helpful to all Joomla users to help testing PRs and Release Candidates.

sozzled, have you used MyJoomla? I know you say you have no affiliation, but, before I jump into something else, I'd like some user feedback.

When I goo to Joomla update and first click the 'Check for updates' button it shows the 3.9.8 update. On my sites this works okay.

@trogladyte (and anyone else who manages hundreds of J! websites): another useful service is watchful.li.

As far as J! 3.9.7 is concerned, I bypassed this version and went straight to J! 3.9.8.

@trogladyte there is also a self hosted extension that can manage joomla sites.

https://www.yoursites.net/

Don't know if its good but my personal policy so to avoid cloud services as much as possible. Especially if I have to gave them full access to customer sites.

I have no affiliation with myJoomla, but it is an absolute necessity no matter how many sites you have. I mange over 70 sites on behalf of various clients on various servers across the world with multiple logins etc.

Using the excellent myJoomla.com service I can login to one location and carryout out all manner of processes across my clients websites, including full file by file security audits, backups, mass install of plugins (such as JCE Editor) as well as a batch upgrade tool for Joomla releases. This saves me many, many hours, I can simply click a few buttons and hey presto, every site is fully updated to the latest release.

I highly recommend you give it a try, your first audit is free and you can use all the tools unrestricted. Check out this tweet from @securejoomla for an even better deal!
If you sign up for http://myJoomla.com today, to manage, audit, backup, upgrade, learn, fix your #Joomla sites, you can get your first month FREE with discount code: FIRSTMONTHFREE

I too use myJoomla.com and frankly, it has changed my life for the better. What was once my most draining activity has become my favourite. That being maintenance.
