Manila10s Rugby Tournament

Post by stingrey » Sat Mar 25, 2006 4:16 pm

If people are wondering where I have disappeared for the last week, it is because I have been involved in organizing the Manila10s Rugby Tournament in my capacity as the Assistant Event Manager.

Playing, Coaching, Refereeing, and organizing Rugby & Touch Rugby events is my other passion apart from Joomla!

Anyway all Manilaites are invited to come down and watch the Final day of the Manila10s Rugby Tournament at the:
Nomads Sports Club in Merville Paranaque
on
Sunday 26th March 2006

The first game - Trophy QuarterFinal starts at 8.00 am and the Cup Grand Final will be around 5.00pm

Admission is free and you are invited to come watch one ofthe most exciting and physically demanding team sports being played - this line is aimed more at Filipinos as Rugby has limited market penetration here.

We also have demonstration games of Kids Touch Rugby and Womens Touch Rugby

The Manila10s is the Best Social Rugby Tournament in the world

32 teams are participating from 17 different Countries.

For more information visit:
http://www.manila10s.com

On a personal note:

I play for the Manila Nomads Club, but as part of our Brother Club adoption program we started and coached the first ever Philippine Air Force Rugby (Clark Airbase) team, which I play for in the position of Scrum-half, which I also am involved as the Assistant Coach.

I am also the Assistant Coach of the Nomads Womens Touch Rugby Team - the first ever non-schools touch team in the Philippines.
The assistant coach of the University of the Philippines Touch Rugby Team - the first ever university based touch rugyb team in the Philippines.

Anyway its been a hectic time these last few days get ready for the tournament and now running the tournament - as well as playing in it - hence why I have been inactive with Joomla! for the last week.

A little moment of vanity  ;)

Some action pics of me refereeing the Womens Touch Rugby demonstration game in last years Manila10s:
http://www.manila10s.com/gallery_05_03_ ... ?imgNum=10
http://www.manila10s.com/gallery_05_03_ ... ?imgNum=11
http://www.manila10s.com/gallery_05_03_ ... ?imgNum=27

I'm the one in the White shirt, with the blue and red checks  :-[

The team in the blue top is the Nomads Womens Touch Rugby Team which I am the assistant coach of.

One might wonder how a coach of a team might be refereeing the game, well as it happens I am also the Senior Touch Rugby Referee in the country

Actually as it happens more than half the Nomads Womens Team are mothers.

And in this shot the 3 closest to me are all Mothers:
http://www.manila10s.com/gallery_05_03_ ... ?imgNum=11

As are all the women (mothers) in these sample pictures of the calendar which the team themselves put together - led by their team Captain.
http://www.manila10s.com/calendar/index.htm

An excellent exemplar for Womens Month (March) - especially as half the proceeds from the Calendar go to WomenLead  ;)

French Rugby calendars (males)
http://boutique.stade.fr/boutique/liste ... g_fr&num=4
I vaguely kind of remember France won the last "Tournoi des 6 nations".
Did they use the calendar to frighten their opponents?  :'(

Now you know French are not as sexist as they say!

I thought useful to know that some calendars were also produced for girls.  ;D

Rugby player(s) among us, nice, since we are sharing Armenian Rugby by the way Rugby Guide is powered by Joomla!

Now that we have few rugby fans here, we need a good rugby component and modules

Actually gatorrugby.com is powered by joomla! and I am working on full integration of the LMO component (using a wrapper right now).

com_lmo should be out this month (I hope)
Once integration is done I plan on adding better support for rugby's scoring system (since all I really care about is rugby).

Wow, how did you get the LMO component to remove goals? I need LMO for my rugby site www.teamponty.net but at the moment cannot get it working right.

Thanks!

What can i do till the rugby season starts, so that I am ready to go straight from the start?
At the start of every rugby season in September at school, it always takes me a while to reach my optimum and gain confidence and strength. What can i do in the meantime to prepare, so im ready to go from the start? I'm fullback by the way.
