- ! OFF TOPIC ! - the pinoy thread for all OFF THE TOPIC POSTS.

Post by guilliam » Tue Aug 23, 2005 4:00 pm

.

As a move for the imlpementation of the MANAGEMENT for the Filipino Forum Board, this thread is specifically made to post all your OFF TOPIC posts.

any thing goes, the general "forum rule" of sticking to the topic is hereby NOT applicable. otherwise from the off topic rule, the general rule of the forum; particularly on indecent and flaming post is still strongly executed.

shooooooot! - so post it!

Knowing how much we Filipino's like to talk off topic  ;D

Our mods suggestion makes a lot of sense, so much that I went further and created this new sub forum area.
The Tsismis Zone, about as off topic as you can get.

well the games are definitely welcome, i mean they increase posts count without one noticing it.  :D

i'm seeing most of my posts will be in the games, not about *ambo.  ;D

that's funny.  I took the day off, went to Catalina Islands for about 11 hours, came back only to find ang dami n'yo ng post.  pero, bakit gano'n?  ang dami n'yong sinabi dito sa "tsismis zone" pero walang "tsismis"?

hmmmm....

yun ang problema.  sabihin mo "tumahimik" - magsasalita.  sabihin mo'ng "magsalita" -- nalalagay sa spot at tatahimik.

so, ano'ng tsismis?

connection nyo lang siguro sir teng.

@tarxius.. post count? most of it is attributed dun sa ibagn threads na andito sa tsismis zone. at any rate, those thread were put there not just for the reason of increasing post counts but to give you guys an avenue to release your tensions out. syempre hindi sa forums na toh but sa mga daily pressures nyo.. at makalimotan nyo naman ng konti or kahit sa ilang sandali.. ahihhihihihi.

@franco, honga pre.. anogn tsismis sa islang yun? san nga pala yun?

Re: - ! OFF TOPIC ! - the pinoy thread for all OFF THE TOPIC POSTS.

1. actor. In the true and correct sense of the
word, "actor" is neither male or female although the
female of it is "actress." When a critic writes his
comments about the potrayal of the actors in a
play or movie, he refers to both male/female
performers. That is why "The Screen Actors Guild"
does not have to add "And Actresses" in its
organic name.

2.baggage. Never spell or pronounce this in plural
form because it is already plural word by itself.

3.bath.Here is a statement that will shock
you: "More than 99% of Filipinos have never taken
a bath in their life." This is true because we take
showers, not baths. People from Western
countries differentiate a bath from a shower by
saying the former requires one to immerse inside a
bathtub while the latter means one stands under a
spray of water to cleanse one's body.

4.Beddings.Wrong. "Bedding" means "sheets,
blankets, etc."no need to say it with an "s."

5.cartographic(As in "cartographic sketch"). Any
dictionary will tell you that cartographic has
everything to do with MAPS or MAPMAKING and
NOT about an artist's sketch of suspect's face
based on the description of witnesses.(No wonder
that I heard from news lately, it is just called an
artist's sketch!)

6.commute.In the Philippine setting, this means "to
ride public transportation" when it can also
mean "to drive a car to work."

7.cypress. "SIGH pres."

8.debut. "dei BYOO" or DEI byoo" but not "di
BOO."

9.fall in line. "Stand in line" is better because one
literally stands while waiting for one's turn.

10.fill up. You "fill up" a gas tank; you "fill out" an
application form.

11.flyover.Unless you are an aswang, you should
call this infrastructure behemoth by its real name--
"overpass." Actually, "flyover" is the British term for
highway overpass" which our engineers probably
used to differentiate it from pedestrian overpasses.

12.Full-fledged."having fully developed adult
plummage." never spelled with a "p" even if the
person has taken the oath as in "having full status
or rank."

13.furnitures. Wrong. Like "luggage"
and "baggage," the word "furniture" is what may be
called a "mass noun," "pieces of furniture" is the
correct phrase to indicate the plural form.

14.genuine. "JEN yoo win" not "JEEN wighn."

15.lychee. "LEE chee." That's what the dictionary
says, but try to pronounce it correctly as you order
this delicious dessert after a sumptous Chinese
meal and the waiter will give you a quizzical look. :-)

16.moral lesson. Redundancy again. "Moral of the
story" is better,

17.motel. In the Philippines, 99% of the time, this
place is used for premarital and extramarital sex
and not for what it is meant to be as a motor hotel.

18.salutatorian. The student who delivers the
salutatory (welcome address) at graduation
excercises, usually, but not necessarily, the one
who ranks second in class.

19.sequin. "SEE kwin" not SEH kwin."

20.valedictorian. A student, usually ranking highest
in a graduation class who delivers the farewell
speech at a commencement ceremony. This is
from the Latin word valdicere, which means "to say
farewell," according to dictionary. Being a
valedictorian, therfore has nothing to do with grades
or class standing.

21. viand. The dictionary says simply "article of
food." but to us Filipinos, it is the "article of food
needed so that rice would be more palatable as
well as more nourishing.

22. vineyard."VIN yurd" not VIGHN yurd"

23. vinyl. As in "vinyl tiles." "Vigh nil" not "vi
NEEL." But try saying it correctly and you will not
be understood by your friendly neighborhood
Hardware storeowner.

just to share to everyone..

sir teng! youre not taking a "bath" pala! surprising??? ehhehehhe
