google map on contact page?
Hello,
Is there a way to add a google map to the contact page? I took a look at the google map extention but it appears that it is placed on a new page. I am looking to add it right to the contact page. Does anybody know of an online instruction page for something like this on the internet that I could read up on and learn about? I am fairly new to the entire Joomla experience so any help would be excellent. I must say that I am completely impressed with Joomlas capabilities to this point and plan on using it quite extensively from here on out.
Thank you,
Jeremy

Re: google map on contact page?
Search a location with http://maps.google.com/
Click on "Link to this page" (on the right just above the map).
Copy the line under "Paste HTML to embed in website"
and past that HTML code in the "Miscellaneous Info:" in the contact form
(Components > Contacts > Manage Contacts > select your contact form > "Miscellaneous Info:").
If the Google map slows down your site, you could also just copy the link under "Paste link in email or IM"
and create a HTML link in the "Miscellaneous Info:" field. (I did the same at my site under "Contact / Adres")

Re: google map on contact page?
Thank you Pe7er it works great. It seems fast enough that I do not need to link to the page, I can just place it in the contact page. Do you know of a way to have the map load without the information bubble? I am opening a medium sized map and it seems as if the bubble that displays the address takes up a great chunk of the available image.
Thanks again,
Jeremy
Thanks again,
Jeremy

I don't know how to remove the information bubble.
Maybe you can find it at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/

Re: google map on contact page?
I believe you're looking for this.
http://www.rolldesign.com/contact/
The Plugin Google Map is a great mambot and is probably the best and most versatile Google Map application there is - even when compared against the components that are out there, which are not very well refined as of yet. Though, the last I tried, I was unable to get this mambot to work in other components, including on the content sections and categories. This may have changed, as I remember downloading the last version when I saw a reference to other components.
As you can see by the example above, my only issue is attempting to figure out the CSS to make the "Get Directions" popup to render black text against the white background. It's now picking up the CSS from the template, which is white text on black background.

Re: google map on contact page?
Do you mean how to install it?
[/list]
- BACKUP - Take note of the files in the archive package. Back those files up on your website. I simply rename them to "filename_ORIGINAL.php."
- OVERWRITE - FTP all the files in the archive directly to your root Joomla install.

Re: google map on contact page?
If anyone wants to know how to add the longtitude / latitude from the google map, there's a simple way described here.
http://lifehacker.com/software/google-m ... 267361.php
Copy & past this javascript code into your browser bar and a javascript popup will show you the long / lat info.

Code: Select all
javascript:void(prompt('',gApplication.getMap().getCenter()));

Re: google map on contact page?
This isn't an exact solution, but I created a new Contact Us module for the homepage of this school site, and linked to a how to find us page from there: http://northsteadschool.co.uk/index.php ... &Itemid=58.
This bot is (imho) a great Google Maps implementation from Mike Reumer here http://tech.reumer.net/. Mike is extremely knowledgable, quick to respond to queries and modify his bot. J! Extension link here: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
BTW, for multiple map implementations (like I have done on http://wanderlust.org.uk - see Walks - Descriptions pages) this also uses kml files saved from Google Earth, where you can also easily find the lat and long co-ordinates for your location.
