Hey Dan thanks for your help. Quick questions, How do I increase the size of the overall center or componant section, and it is possible to replace the Joomla banner at the top with a different graphic? Also Dan, I love that Funky font. Is there somewhere I can download it?

Once again, great work thanks!!!!

Hi Marty,

Site's looking great already :)

the center section will need CSS and graphic adjustments to increase the width, it's not majorly difficult but you will need some knowledge of template construction and CSS.  The background which defines the left column area will need to be reproduced, as will the split header section (for all five colours, if you are keeping the colorswitcher).

I see you've already replaced the Joomla banner - nice idea...you can also adjust the position in CSS, although I would recommend addressing the size issue (it's just under 100kb).

Funky font is from http://www.dafont.com - now...if only I could remember what it was called... ???

Hi Dan,

Congratulations, you have made a nice job with this template! I'm currently working on it to match my requirements.

I encounter some little problems, specially with polls, and have tried to debug, but I'm a newbie  :(.

Poll question doesn't display on the server http://www.spotenergie.ch/index.php but it displays on local using Xampp.

Today, I have replaced the modified template by the original and I have replaced my database by the default RC3 database with sample data, but the result is always the same. :'(

Take a look to the source code of the index.php page and you will see that the poll title is nowhere.

Server details: Joomla! RC3 (without SVN updates), PHP 4.4.6, MySQL 4.1.22-log

Other problem:

I have tried to modify the content_bot_left_orientation.png and content_mid_left_orientation.png files to have a smaller left column (-40 pixels on the left and +40 pixels on the right), but when I export or save the modified files in the PNG 24 bit format with Photoshop Element 4.0, images are darker as the original ones in IE7.

Do you have any explanations for this ? Is it a question of color profile (sRGB) or a software problem ?

Thank you in advance for your help and good luck with the Template Contest !

Best regards,

Very strange. I've just uploaded a fresh version of the template in "light" mode (http://demo.toolboxcreations.com/whitepoint/) - standard RC3 installation, nothing changed, and the polls are working fine, so I'm not entirely sure what to suggest.  I will do some more investigation to see if I can reproduce it.  Do you have problems with any other templates?

As for the PNG problem - this is a common problem and is due to the way Photoshop handles the PNG format.  You will need to export the images from Fireworks to get the colours right I'm afraid...

Thanks for the feedback!

The poll display problem doesn't appear with the RHUK Milkyway template (http://www.spotenergie.ch/index.php). If required, I can make some test with other templates.

In the worst case I will wait for an upgrade of the server in the next 2 months because the provider will stop the PHP4 support next summer.

For PNG files, I will install Fireworks to make the job as the same problem appear with Paint Shop pro. Thank you for your explanation.

You are welcome for the feedback !

Thanks for that.  I've check my Polls override code with the core Polls module code, and apart from the handful of style additions in mine, they are identical.  I can only assume you have a settings or server issue somewhere which is affecting the module.

I was having a problem with Polls as well. I uninstalled all of RC3 and then they worked. Not a great suggestion of how to fix it, but it did work for me.

Thank you for this information. It could help me to solve the problem.

Did you removed all RC3 external modules and composants or all the RC3 files and database ?

Are you using the Joomla! sample data or your own or empty database ?

Kind regards,

I removed all of RC3 but I left my database intact. I then re-installed and I used the sample data. It seems to be running quite well although we are far from done with the site and testing.

I know...and apologies...I recently moved servers and haven't had time to get all the demos back online yet.

Should be sorted today...  :D

I love this template and am definitely going to add it to my site.

The only thing I need to know is how to add SIFR fonts to it so that I can individualise the header.

Hi Tony,

The easiest way by far is to get hold of the font you'd like to implement (you will need to download a ready-made sIFR .swf or make your own with Flash), then simply rename it to one of the existing font filenames:

funky.swf
funky_slogan.swf

future.swf
future_slogn.swf

industrial.swf
industrial_slogan.swf

Now upload your replacement sIFR font(s) to the \fonts\ folder, overwriting the existing file(s).

Go into the template manager, and set the parameter for the font style to the style you've just replaced.

There are a handful of ready-mades available at http://www.fontsmack.com/.

Enjoy :)

Hi Dan.  New to the board.  Great template.  I looked at all the contest entries and I came back to yours.  I do have an issue and I am not sure if it is a template issue or my end.  While I look at the code, I will throw it past you.

I am using the Banners component (Left aligned setup with banner spot below the Component).  The banner shows up fine on the Main page but on my other pages such as Contact Us, News, or Calendar, it is a broken link.  The Property for the correct one states a path of: http://www.maryvilletalks.com/main/imag ... 5_hane.jpg  and the incorrect (brokern link) states: http://www.maryvilletalks.com/main/inde ... 5_hane.jpg

Thanks and great work on the template.

The more i work with this template the more I like it!  :)  I'm coming to grips with how to modify it in various ways.

One quick question though, is the 404 page part of the template or part of RC3 as I can't find it anywhere?; I want to write a custom 404 page.

I did ask this on the 1.5 board but no-one answered.

Gotta be a Joomla! bug, I'm not using any overrides or have any influence over the banner display.

Sorry Pete, but this goes way beyond the scope of a template contest entry thread.  However, I believe that there are still some issues regarding SEF and 404's which have yet to be resolved...

Yes, I wsn't intending to hijack the thread, I'm just trying to discover if the page is part of the template or part of 1.5. I assume it's part of 1.5 then.

That'll do me.

I don't think it is by default, although it may be possible to add it as an override...personally with SEF enabled I can't even get my sites to generate 404 pages...so something ain't right  :)

Dan-

I must say that I enjoy working with this template more than I have with those from the club I joined. Thank you for making such a good piece of work GNU GPL!

I had good luck swapping out the header images and I have been playing around with changes to the sIFR text and I really like the way that works. One question: how can I change the color/size of the site slogan? I was mucking around in the css file but couldn't make it work. I was changing siteslogan. See how I did  so far at http://www.aWeddingPainter.com.

Thank you for adding the typography page to the demo site. Stuff like that is very helpful to those of us who cant read style sheets. It would be even more helpful if there were some way to have a list/example of each class in the template. I know that's a lot to ask for a free template. But it could really be a differentiator if a guy were to sell templates...nudge,nudge,wink,wink...

Thanks again, I hope you take the contest!

Hi Derek,

Thanks!  And great work on the site - I love the way you've added unique images to the colorswitcher - great idea :)

Site Slogan - change the position here:

Code: Select all

#siteslogan_div_future, #siteslogan_div_industrial, #siteslogan_div_funky{
position:absolute; top:145px; left:27px; }
...and the size here:

Code: Select all

.sIFR-hasFlash .siteslogan{
visibility:hidden;
font-size:20px;
letter-spacing:0px; }
It would be even more helpful if there were some way to have a list/example of each class in the template.

Not sure what you mean...can you elaborate?

Good luck with the site...I will keep an eye on your progress for sure :D

Lo Dan and erm..Happy Guy Fawkes' night. :)

I have been having a lot of fun with this template so far but have run into a slight glitch with the menu -> category blog appearances with double columns.... they aren't basically - they just run down one half of the content frame, the next item being below the 'domain names' blog.

Image

Now, as I remember, I hacked around the width of the left column to make it about 200 px but I can't see what CSS determines how the double column fits into the main content pane.

any ideas?

I'm not sure what's happening here - however, it's not a template issue (nor a CSS issue as far as I can tell) - your frontpage displays the blog format correctly, and I notice you've assigned MilkyWay to the Websites menu item - and the layout is wrong in that template too.

Check the menu settings and experiment with the layout.  Could be a Joomla Core issue.

Actually - what it was was I was playing with the site template while you were browsing it - very bad practice to do these things live I know but there you go.

I noticed that 'The News' category blog shows up double columns OK so there is clearly something else going on here. Possibly related to these particular new category blogs I added to the menu, they behave weirdly in general but I really doubt this is caused by your template.
