Anyone has a solution on the permission issue?

Server: Virtual Dedicated Server from godaddy

all folders are 755

in the system info, it still says Unwriteable.

Can anyone tell me how to change it in the server setting?

thanks.

My only suggestion would be, as was my problem, make sure after you setup databse and new username, you added your username to the database and check, ALL Permissions Box.

There's no way of unzipping joomla doning this on a standard hosting account. Your best bet is just to upload the files using a ftp client with the ablity to queue the files so you are sure everything was uploaded succesfully. A good free ftp application I use is SmartFTP availble for download on http://www.smartftp.com.
Man, check this out: http://ftp-unzip.com/ZipDeploy ! This just baled my ass out of a problem when I
scribbled on one of my godaddy sites. You get your joomla uploaded REALLY fast.

WHat do ALL Permissions mean? ...Sorry ..
...I meant ALL PRIVILEGES ... at bottom of page you would make sure to add user to database...then the next page, you would see these boxes.
ALL PRIVILEGES
    SELECT  CREATE
INSERT  ALTER
UPDATE  DROP
DELETE  LOCK TABLES
INDEX  REFERENCES
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES

Hi, I,ve been reading all posts with care. My knowledge is intermediate but I'm certainly not an expert in SQL or PHP. So here it goes:

- I started of by getting shared hosting at godaddy.com. got the linux deluxe pack.
- I installed joomla latest release trough their hosting control center.
- I started on a website that is almost finished.

so far so good. Not comes the tricky part. The guy's that asked me to build it, like to have two websites.
I explain. It's a shop that sells motorcycles. They have two brands and like two different sites to visit each brand.

I now want to use two websites on the hosting server. The first one is already done and is in the standard /joomla directory.

- Can I replace this site to another directory. (make a backup or just move the files).
- Will the sql database still work (links to contect etc...)

When I install a second installation (copy of the first) into another dir:

- Can I use the same database or do I need to create a new one
- Can I use data or import it

I'm completely in the dark here and told the shop that it will be best to stay to one site (problem solved) however they insist on having two (one for each brand) and besides that, I'm willing to learn and understand a little more on this kind of setup.

All info and tips are welcome and much appreciated !
Tnx, Phil

on the deluxe host packages you can host multiple domains create a sub directory for the second domain upload Joomla to that directory.
under the host manager go in to mysql create the database for that site once it setup write down the connection string info you'll need it to install.
click on settings domain management at the top of page you will see assign domain to hosting site, the first dropdown box is domain selct the domain or type it in then in the next type the /subdirectory name then click add domain.
for some domain name it might take 24 hours for it show up on line but you and access thru http://www.existingsite.com./subdirectory to setup and configure site

you can host multiple domains on one cheap linux Godaddy hosting account by pointing the domain to you hosting account and then in your.htaccess add the following  formatted for your setup. This points americantravelblog to a sub directory named americantravelblogs. I have 4 sites set up like this on one hosting account.
You can use the same database, except when installing change the table prefix to something different than what you first site was set to. This will create a new set of tables with the new prefix.

## Virtual Host
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST}  americantravelblog.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/americantravelblogs/.*$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$  /americantravelblogs/$1 [L]

Hello Everyone!
I had Godaddy install Joomla for me ! so far it look great! but now I am done with my website and ready to go online! Now here is where I am having problems. When godday install Joomla on the server, in my root I have a "Joomla" folder with other folders in the root call "php_uploads","stats","favicon", "gdform.php", "missing.html", "php.ini", and "welcome.html". Now that I finish my website I read somewhere in here that I need to change the index.html to index_old.html and make my index.php my website. Now I don't see "index.html" in the "joomla" folder at all ! I do see the "index.php" file, but when I move the "index.php" file into my root I cannot get my website online! what am I doing wrong? when I removed the "index.php" from the root I get the default webpage that comes with godaddy and it seem to work fine. Now what do I have to do to get this online? Could someone help me out?
Thank You

Hi Sirknight115
all you need to do is copy all of the sub directories and files in the Joomla directory to the root directory then in you configuration.php file edit
$mosConfig_absolute_path
$mosConfig_cachepath
$mosConfig_Livesite
drop the Joomla subdirectory from these.

Hello K4lch,
I call godaddy and they told me that I should be able to change the htaccess file to bring up my new website, is this true? I hate to copy everything into the root. Please let me know?
Thank You

There are many ways to do things.

Ruben, I suggest you take the time to familiarize yourself with some basic website/hosting procedures and terms. It's obvious from the kind of questions you are asking that you need to take in my knowledge before you try to perform some of the tasks you are asking about.

I finally got my joomla installed, and the site shows up fine but I cannot log into the administration panel. I type in the log-in and password, but it keeps going back to the log-in screen and tells me I have to log-in

Windows Hosting plan runs ASP. Joomla needs PHP in order to run so your stuck to Linux. You can easly (and for free) convert your current hosting plan from Windows to Linux from the GoDaddy control panel.

I looked into that and do not see how to switch over to Linux for free. Could you tell me how?

Thanks

I wish this was the manual for Yahoo! Webhosting Installation! :-)

I am thinking that once I figure out this Yahoo install that it would be good to have the same type of manual for it.

May I use your outline to do this?

I am encountering multiple issues to which I have had no clear solution provided yet. Hence the need for the manual for Yahoo! / Joomla peeps.

Thx
D

I've tried that with no success. The main issue is the SSL certification and some tighter security issues.
if you want to use joomla, you better use other hosting companies other than yahoo. Yahoo only good for their own business packages.

Login, >My Account >My Products >Hosting Account List >WhateverYourDomain
Now look at the Hosting Account Details box on the right of the Hosting Account you just selected
There is a link >Switch Operating System
If you had Windows hosting (economy package) then you will see that w/ASP hosting
Now Check the box for w/PHP hosting (although it doesn't say, that would be the Linux hosting instead)
The pricing should be the same, although it looks like there is an opportunity to choose bigger packages here, just pick the economy hosting w/PHP which I had to do after reading this forum.
After following thru with the >Continue buttons,
The "status" will change to "Pending Account Change" where I have been for about an hour so far.
I'm just wondering if I have to upload everything again and how long it will take to change.
I will follow up...

yeah, took a couple hours, maybe 2 or 3 and it was seamless as far as I can tell (except for a tiny ip address change)

k4lch,
Thanks for the clear instructions on how to get a Joomla site up and running on GoDaddy.
I have been worrying about this and the GoDaddy techs were not helpful.
This forum is great for answering all sorts of questions.

Hey k4lch -

I'm an experienced Joomla user on a different server.  This is my first GoDaddy Joomla site... My problems sound very similar... however when I view my config file, the path looks very similar... however the /joomla dir is not there... I have my joomla site installed at the root.  any other suggestions?

I'm also having problems with JEvents - I keep getting an error above the module:

Please help!
