[32]Pinned Articles
White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
Intro.
Pinned Articles is a feature that is severely needed with in Joomla’s front page content. It will benefit webmaster by allowing them to post new articles on the front page without burying an article that may have higher importance but is older. This feature has been requested by many users in the past. However their only options were to manipulate the system.
Proposal
Pinned Articles should be an option within the content editor both on the front end and backend. The option should be a part of the publishing toggle. This would make the next edition “Joomla 1.6” be even more powerful than the previous editions.
Features
Pinned Articles
-option available in publishing toggle
-option available on frontend and backend editors
-option to have article pinned for particular user groups.
Effects
-Allows for important information to be in a headline position, giving notice to users that information with in the article is important.
-Allows administrator or webmaster more flexibility with content control.

Re: White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
Maybe also allow for specifying a time period (start/end) for the "pinning".

Re: White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
Actually having a start and end period would be a great idea.
Perhaps having an option for individual users, to have it unpinned when they are logged in.

Re: White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
May I add to this excellent suggestion that pinning could also be useful in section and category blog pages. For example, I have a category blog in which I want two articles to always be at the top, but for the remainder I am perfectly happy having articles displayed according to date or another set order. Joomla provides plenty ways to order articles but this sort of override would be great.

Perhaps even having different icons, depending on the nature of the pin. Notice, News, Alert.

Re: White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
It would seem to me that if you can work out a mechanism for "pinning" articles to the front page (by setting a flag on that article), then that would eliminate the need for a Front Page manager, which is redundant, usability-wise. Plus, the Front Page manager, in it's current state, is not really well thought out.

I am not the smartest brick in the wall, but is this an acceptable white paper? I am not a programmer? If It isn't could someone rewrite it because It is a feature that many have requested in the past.

Re: White Paper Submission: Pinned Articles
I think it is important this feature but I would like that it is possible to select also the position of this important article in the front page
Vorrei ringraziare http://www.joomla.org per avermi dato la possibilità di essere presente su internet anche se non ci capisco niente di programmazione.

Re: [32]Pinned Articles
I would surely like to see this made possible.
Has anything been done on it?
Is there a good work around or extension?
Thnx

Re: [32]Pinned Articles
Im also very interested in this facility.
I am fairly new to Joomla and would like to pin an "intro" article to the top of a category blog, is there anyway I can do this in 1.5 currently?
