Post by volmark » Thu Jan 03, 2008 5:42 am

Joomla 1.5 installation -> FTP configuration -> the XML response that was returned from the server is invalid
See attached image …
Next step "install Sample Data" also faild, "Next" button and then total crash :

"Notice: Undefined index: DBtype in /hsphere/local/home/volmark/test.danskliv.dk/joom15/installation/installer/models/model.php on line 702 Fatal error: Call to undefined method JException::getNullDate() in /hsphere/local/home/volmark/test.danskliv.dk/joom15/installation/installer/helper.php on line 290"

Any suggestion???

did you rename the configuration.php-dist to configuration.php ?

Seems to be the problem !

I saw that in : http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic ... msg1131480

where crecalde posts a link to http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg967855,

hope it helps ! :)

As Le Menello say in one of this post, the first page of installation should be changed so there is no error reported when configuration.php is missing.

Yes, I did last time when I installed 1.5. It was impossible to go further and I did rename but anyway I’ve got ‘the XML response’ error.

Delete configuration.php, and launch instalation page, it should be ok. Eeven if the first page tells you that configuration.php is not writable, just skip this page.

It was very helpful link. I did wrong because I renamed configuration.php-dist into configuration.php.
I thing it is a confusing usability issue because you are warned that you can NOT proceed the installation, but you should do the opposite.
I hope this time the installation will go more smoothly.
Thanks a lot …

Interesting oddity I discovered. I could not install the sample data when the configuration file was writeable, but when I tried the installation again and the configuration file was not writeable, there were no problems. This has happened now on two separate sites.

Somebody in core team of Joomla developement should fix this..

it is realy frusttrating thing.. to say that it is "recommended to copy configuration data at the end to configuration.php and upload it to root dir"

cheers 8)

PROBLEM SOLVED! Here's how I did it. First, DO NOT rename "configuration.php-dist" to "configuration.php". The pre-installation check will show NO on the configuration.php Writeable- ignore it. Proceed with the installation. At the end of the installation, you cut and paste the contents of the configuration.php into any text editor (i.e. Notepad) and save the file as configuration.php. Then upload this file (configuration.php) to the Joomla root directory in the server. Hope this helps.

Not touching the config file got rid of the error at that step for me, but I still get it for loading sample data.

cut the crap.
the cure is: in the setup MySQL data prefix is #__ and it should read jos_
so do not remove the installation file after you installed (skip install sample data) but rename the install data dir to something like /_installation
Open the /sql in this dir, then open /mysql/sampledata in a plain php or html editor, search for this #__ tag and replace by find and replace to jos_ (you'll find 34 items)
With ctrl A and copy all paste these in the SQL of your dBase phpMySQL.
You're done.

Just ignore the sample data import during setup/install.
that's all. That is on our free BSD and Fedora and all other *nix servers.

Have fun.

Joomla Installation Made Easy!

After reading dirkovision's post, my installation went well. I'm installing Joomla to an Ubuntu 9.10 dev server running on a networked machine. I have full admin rights to all files, databases, etc.

1. Leave the configuration.php-dist file as is.
2. Follow regular installation, ignoring the warning that the configuration file is not writable. (Correct any other issues though)
3. When asked about MySQL table name, enter jos_
4. Finish installation, you can install the Sample Data if you wish, not a problem.
5. Open the configuration.php-dist file in a text editor like Notepad (Windows) or Gedit (ubuntu) or TextEdit (Mac) and replace all the contents with the provided config code at the end of the installation.
6. Rename the configuration.php-dist file to configuration.php
7. Rename the installation folder to _installation.

All done.

You'd better remove the installation folder instead of renaming it to _installation.
Or change it's permissions (e.g. CHMOD to 000)
