Mambo Community Held Hostage Day 6

Post by xperis » Thu Aug 25, 2005 2:03 pm

While I respect the quality of the work the core dev has done, this is day 6 without any substantial communication from the Core DEVs of an "Open" source project to the community that this is all suppose to be about.

They have had time time borrow, layout, and use forum members photos as a visual endorsement of thier rightness, in thier online PR spin.

How many were asked if their photo could be used in this way?

Are then any photos from the few of us, who are not 100% endorsers yet, that worry about the lack of communication?

On the other side, Miro is devoting more devs to their fork.  Keeping the servers running as they have for the last few years, and except for an initial bad reaction, left posted threads with some rather nasty comments about them, instead of deleting the threads and the accounts.

Personally I still think there is more missunderstanding and assumption in this rift than proof of evil.  Though I would say Miro did a hell of a good job, screwing up the commuication.

Of course right now here we have no servers where devs can post projects and users can post bugs, just the form.  We don't have any communication, what ever is happening is happening in closed rooms to which a handful a invited.

I am beginning to understand the emotions of the Core Dev when they found all the foundation legal work had been done without them.

I am curious supporter or not how many were asked if their photo could be used as part of the OSM PR spin?  How many of you would like it if Miro just raided the current mamboserver forum member listings and said "Here are our supporters"

This doesn't feel very open.  At what point is loyal support, just drinking the koolaid in silence.  Does anyone know what they are supporting?  A comming legal battle over names and copyrights? A cool new GPL CMS project.  A Fan club?

Got no info, got no clue.

Good friends ask questions and don't just follow friends over a cliff.

A public acknowledgment and thank you is PR spin?

That's a new one to me.

I remember about a year ago when someone decided to set up a copy web site to mine - direct competition! I went ballistic deciding to implement changes and a new design that I was going to do when I had a gap. War mentality - long and late hours - meant I was slow to respond to day to day work.

While I don't know exactly what the team - core devs, documentation, PR, moderators, etc. - are up to, I do expect that it is along similar lines - getting v1.0 of a yet unnamed CMS ready as well as the changes in web sites, documentation, administration structure and lots more.

As such, having signed up at OSM I am happy to trust the team at this crucial time and happy for them to use my avatar as a sign that I am one of the OSM community.

xperis, I think we're all aware by now you're just here to sow dissent and stir things up.

If you're so supportive of Miro, their actions, their servers and their no-doubt brilliant new devs - why not just stick with their fork of the project rather than spewing your rhetoric here?

What amazes me is with the apparent support of the majority of peole on this forum. Someone believes they can make a post like that and actually change anything.

It may be of interest to everyone that one of the reasons we are taking time is to ensure we get things done right the first time. Crossing the T's, dotting the I's etc...

We are all working as quickly as we can, to provide the best results we can. We shouldn't sacrifice quality for speed.

All will be revealed in due course.

I agree. Even though I hate waiting longer :)

That took 6 days!!!!!! That was all I was asking for.. some communication!!!

Cool... :) :)

I still worry that for seven days there was more:
"we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"
"we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"
"we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"
"we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"
"we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"  "we support the Core"

Than questions and requests to be included on the goals and plans....

It was beginning to feel like an episode of Outer Limits with a fire and virgin on the alter... and chanting

But this brand new post gives me hope that we might just get a Phoenix rather than a cooked Goose..

But some of you need to go learn to get curious and ask more questions in 6 days  geeze..

Based on this post.. It sounds like not just on blind faith, but action.. I am ready to "support the Core"
I am still not convinced Miro was being anyting more than clumsy. But this new post gives good hope the new incarnation will pick-up steam and continue the tradition.

I do have one question.. Why are they hiring some "consultancy" the pick a name?  We have lots of good ideas in the communinty choose five of them and do the legal work to make sure at least one can be trademarked.  Choosing a name should be a fun job for the community!!

Never STOP ASKING QUESTIONS.. it is the first sign Rigormortis (sp?) is setting in..

I'm glad this helped a bit...

Just know we are working as hard as we can... but it does take time. We aren't just starting a new OS project. This one is already high profile and people have equally high expectations. The team is doing what it can to meet them.

Why, I do believe this pilgrim has been out in the sun for too long, and quite likely is sufferin' from delirium caused by a nasty snake bite to boot...

I'd like to think tha last post of his shows he's finally seen the light at the end of his tunnel and will now cut back on the somewhat habitual postin' of nonsensical allegations and the like. Somethin' tells me that this won't be the last we'll here of that, well, kinda deranged rantin'...

As for a community held hostage, damn pardner you sure musta been bitten bad by that there snake.

What am I doin' here replyin' to this oddball? Well, I'm sure I heard someone yell "yee-haw". Altho now I notice the "yee-haw" has been edited out by the sunstroked varmit. Eccentric, that's what it is.

We havent hired anyone!!!!

"We have decided to choose a new name for the project, formerly known as Mambo and have accepted the offer of free advice from a world leading brand consultancy."

When you get offered FREE the services of a world leading brand consultancy only a fool would turn it down.
