Why does joomla insert random <p>&nbsp;</p> ?

Post by troykristoffer » Wed Dec 02, 2009 8:35 pm

I've tried searching the forum for this, but unfortunately it wont allow me to search for "<p>&nbsp;</p>" because the characters are "too common".

For some strange reason, every version of Joomla I've ever worked with inserts random <p>&nbsp;</p> after elements everytime I save the articles etc. (Actually, it seems more like it happens when I OPEN the article for editing than when I save it...)

It's frustrating, because everytime I save the article, I have to go back and remove them and save it again.

Is this a joomla issue or and editor issue? It seems to happen with the editor that comes packaged with Joomla as well as the WYSYWIG editor that I've installed.

TinyMCE (the default WYSIWYG Editor) is set by default to "P" (<p>) Elements (paragraphs) for new lines. You can change this to line breaks (<br />) by going to: Extensions > Plugin Manager > Editor - TinyMCE > Parameters > New Lines > BR Elements.

Incidentally, even if a WYSIWIG editor is set to insert paragraph elements by default, this can be overridden to insert line breaks (<br />) by holding down the [Shift] key on the keyboard and hitting the [Enter] key.

This was what i usually was using to get along with these mystical breaks, but not so mystical any more ;)
