Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
1. I'm using 'Advanced Social Bookmarker' by Prova with all social bookmarking badges enabled
2. I'm using a Rockettheme template with Rokbox enabled for login/logout button at the top of all pages
3. Both work fine together in all browsers other than IE7 (and IE6 I think, I didn't bother to test it yet)
4. In IE7, I get the error message Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site when any page tries to load with both enabled.
5. I need both working on my site, in all browsers
6. I tried switching the 'domready' with 'load' code in the behavior.php file as suggested in another board post I searched - did not work
7. This has been mentioned on their forum but the forum is inactive at this time
8. I've read some things about using 'defer' somewhere but I do not know where to try this or if it is the proper solution fot this matter. I also read something about switching the script out of the bofy tags but I have no idea which file to edit nor where in the file to make changes.
I know IE7 is not the most popular browser but I use it more than others for regular browsing (still using XP) and I just want it available to the smaller % of people using it anyway, including myself. Can anyone help correct this? I need this as soon as possible! Thanks in advance.

That's a known issue with RokBox if I'm not mistaken, have you looked at RocketTheme's forums?

I really recommend upgrading to IE8, where you will be able to run the site in Compatibility Mode, that can make the site appear as it would in IE6, or IE7, with the speed and security of IE8. Below is a link to get you started, and a link explaining how to use Compatibility Mode:

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
I posted there but no answer yet. Their support has not been the greatest considering it's paid for... or maybe my problems are unique? Anyway, have you learned of any solutions or workarounds for this other than obviously upgrading to IE8? I need this as sson as possible!! I know a few IE7 users and I want to open my site very soon.ranwilli wrote:That's a known issue with RokBox if I'm not mistaken, have you looked at RocketTheme's forums?

My "Solution" was to remove RokBox.

That's not really a solution. The Rokbox login was one of the reasons I paid for the template.ranwilli wrote:My "Solution" was to remove RokBox.

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
Well, have you tried disabling it to see if it IS the issue or AN issue? If it turns out it is, then I think you have to ask yourself, as I did, can I afford to give up the 40% or so of site visitors who still use IE?
I could not, so I disabled it.
It MAY not even be the issue in your case.

I had to pay an expert .js / jQuery / Mootools guy on joomlancers to fix my IE problems with a Rockettheme template!

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
I have been paid LOTS of times to "fix" commercial templates, and 99% of the time it has to do with IE.
But if you check closely, for the most part anymore, they don't claim to support IE5.5, 6 and sometimes 7.

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
Two BIG reasons:
1. It came with their Windows computer (ask a user what browser they use, if they can't tell you, it's IE).
2. Many Corporate computers and many government office computers still run Windows 2000, which does not support IE 7 or 8, and the IT department has forbidden any alternate browsers.

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need help
I tried disabling the Rokbox Login module on the pages where I got that message, and also disabling the Rokbox plugin, but I discovered that neither helped and I still get the message in IE7. So, this apparently is a problem with the Advanced Social Bookmarker plugin. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? I would like to have this because it is probably the most complete and practical social bookmarker that makes the page look nice also. Are there alternatives that I am not aware of? This is frustrating...ranwilli wrote:My "Solution" was to remove RokBox.
*edit*...
More specifically, I discovered that it is the Facebook badge that causes this. I disabled the Facebook badge and now it seems to work. I can live with that but I'm going to keep an I eye on this because I could swear I tried this before and still got the error from the Twitter badge and/or the Facebook badge which are the two more important ones I wanted. If I have one of the two to work with I'll survive until I find a fix for this.... hopefully this stays working until then.

OMG. Just came across this and you solved the riddle.
I have Prova Advanced Social Bookmarker and in IE8 it's giving me this error:
I am about to post a message on their board but wanted to see what the issue may be first and I turned off the Facebook button... and now I don't get the error.
Wonder what it's conflicting with...!

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site - need h
I had this problem with the Facebook Fanbox module. None of my other sidebar modules except facebook fan box were showing and I was getting the HTLP parsing error for child content.
I disabled the facebook share button and all is fine now. Streaming works and fans showing up. Hope this helps others.

I would recommend a freeware utility to test the rendering of a website in IE versions, even if you don't have them installed: IETesterKyler_IE8_Team wrote:I really recommend upgrading to IE8, where you will be able to run the site in Compatibility Mode, that can make the site appear as it would in IE6, or IE7, with the speed and security of IE8. Like ranwilli said, RocketTheme don't support old browsers as IE6 anymore (maybe even IE7 too some times);johnnybiggles wrote:That's not really a solution. The Rokbox login was one of the reasons I paid for the template.ranwilli wrote:My "Solution" was to remove RokBox.
Are you sure the issue lies on the Rokbox and not the bookmarking extension? I developed a nice Non-Commercial bookmarking extension called ValAddThis.. take a look at it here at the JED: plugin and module.

I have also used Rokbox to get a popup login. I have not experienced the same problems with it, but I recently discovered this alternative popup using a template override:
