404 Error installation joomla

Post by Yvonnevanvliet » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:22 pm

I have tried to install joomla with the joomla beginners guide, but unfortunatelly I continually get the same error:
Error 404

Object not found

Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.3.1 mod_apreq2-20090110/2.7.1 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

I also tried to install joomla in separate new director:/htdocs/joomla15, but that doesn't make any difference.

What can I do to finish my installation?

Kind regards,
Yvonne

AMP stack = XAMPP (or other collection of Apache MySQL and PHP first letters create AMP)
  • Make sure that XAMPP is running properly.
  • Open the XAMPP control panel and
  • check that you have started the Apache and MySQL servers by clicking on the buttons next to each.
  • Also if you don't want this to have to be done each time check the Check Box to the left of each of these (not FTP or Mail server) to start as a Service when Windows starts.
  • Type in http://localhost/xampp and you should see the XAMPP web interface page.
  • Also check that you can access the PHPMyAdmin database link in the menu on the left of this page.
  • When you unpack the Joomla! zip file do not use Windows own zip manager but
  • install a third party option such as 7-Zip to do this and,
  • unzip the files directly into your xampp/htdocs/joomla15 directory.
  • Make sure you do not accidentally create an extra level such as xampp/htdocs/joomla15/joomla-stable-full... (being the full name of the Joomla! zip file).

Thank you for your help.
I think XAMPP is running properly.
The Apache and MySXL servers are both running
I also checked if I can access the PHPMYAdmin database, and I can.
I installed 7 Zip and unzipped the files directly with this program into C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\joomla15
Unfortunatelly I get the same 404 error when I type http://localhost/joomla15. in my browser:

Object not found!
Error 404
localhost
13-4-2010 10:01:44
Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.3.1 mod_apreq2-20090110/2.7.1 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

Are you downloading the full Joomla! installation package and not a patch file?
Check the joomla15 directory and their should be a set of directories one of which should be called installation. Is it present?
