Need to change pagination limit

Postby ptrickey » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:10 pm

Hi- I am trying to change the default 10 item limit in my category blog pagination to display a limit of 16. I am using Joomla version 1.5.14. I tried to set it in the global configuration for list length and feed length (not sure if this has anything to do with it) but nothing changed. Is this an easy thing to change? If so, how?

Goto menu manager and to the Category Blog menu you have created. In the Parameters section you can find options to change number of articles to be displayed.

No, I am trying to change the pagination links at the bottom (eg, <prev 1, 2, 3, etc... next>), not the amount of articles that display on the page- that is set to 1 and that is working fine.

The pagination is the problem. It defaults that links 1-10 display in the pagination even though I have 16 articles total. I have to click "next" to see links 11 - 16. I am trying to have the pagination show links to 1-16 all at once since there is ample room.

In your Category menu item, change the #links to whatever fits nicely

That is for a listing of links to the articles, not the numeric pagination I am referring to... but thank you anyway!

I just did some searching and found the solution. The default of 10 items per pagination iteration is set in /libraries/joomla/html/pagination.php ... $displayedPage = 10. I changed it to 16 and it does what I need it to do.

Ah .. I understand ... you do realize that change will take effect over all category block pagination ..

I don't think you need any code hacks for this.

Just put 16 in "# Leading" field of the parameters block and your category blog will display all 16 articles. Please correct me if I am wrong.

yes, but my layout is pretty consistent, so it's fine for this site. It is a shame that you can't set that pagination parameter on the menu item level.

per the #Leading articles... that is not the issue- it is the numeric pagination... issue is solved.

Allow me to correct this statement. If all 'wishlist' items of each user would be branded as "shameful" Joomla would be a pretty bad product.....It might be better to call it pity for your specific needs and constructive to post a message in this board: viewforum.php?f=500

Also better document these changes very well since next release you will have to redo them again....

Wow, that is really over the top... "It's a shame" is a figure of speech (like "too bad..") -- not implying that Joomla is "shameful" in any way. Joomla is a great product, but there is always room for improvement, so it is a good suggestion to post this as a wish list item. I clearly had to determine this couldn't be done another way first.... I am still open to hearing alternatives to this core modification to achieve the same result.

no need to hack the core files. just copy pagination from libraries/joomla/html/ to your default template folder .. for example we use a beez template as default.
then you copy your original pagination to root/templates/beez/html/ and there you made a changes.

I got the solutions
components\com_content\views\category

UPDATE ALL DEFAULTT PARAMETERS for all category blog layout

Code: Select all

// Parameters
      $params->def('num_leading_articles',    1);
      $params->def('num_intro_articles',       4);
      $params->def('num_columns',            2);
      $params->def('num_links',             4);
      $params->def('show_headings',          1);
      $params->def('show_pagination',         2);
      $params->def('show_pagination_results',   1);
      $params->def('show_pagination_limit',   1);
      $params->def('filter',               1);
      if (($params->def('filter_type', 'title') != 'hits') && ($params->def('filter_type', 'title') != 'author')) {
         $params->set('filter_type', 'title');
      }

Many thanks for this, I was looking for a way to stop my client clicking on "view all" on the pagination tab (as he has over 30,000 entries).

I just changed line 329 on libraries/joomla/html/pagination.php and it's done the job.
Cheers again
