CMS for Recipe Site

Post by mulva111 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:11 pm

Hi,

We are looking for a CMS for our recipe site - http://www.yummly.com

What are the advantages to going with Joomla over something like Wordpress?

Thanks.

It depends on what you're looking to do.
There are benefits to both and drawbacks in certain ways (although I feel Joomla 1.6 has closed the gap on many things that Wordpress used to be better at).

So it depends on what you're doing in totality and where you want to take it.

In my experiences, Joomla! scales extremely well from small sites, to huge user friendly sites very very well. Wordpress - not quite as well unless you're putting in a LOT of extra work in order to get the same functionality Joomla! provides right out of the box.

I haven't got to try Joomla yet but I hope to on my next site. I've used Drupal in the past (just for a test site, never tried on a production site), but I wasn't nearly as pleased as I was with WP. It's funny because I was actually wondering the same thing about my site (http://homemadenaturaldogfood.com) I'm currently running it from WP.

I've heard so many good things about Joomla though that I wanted to check it out and actually ask people who make/run sites like I do and have tried both. Great forum BTW, this is actually my first post but I've found tons of info so far so I'm really surprised I haven't been here sooner...

Both wordpress and Joomla has there plus and minus point, the more you know about them the more you will start liking it. Depending on requirement I feel Joomla customization can give a great look to your site.

Regarding wordpress it far more simple to use and customize thats the reason its more used.

Yes I've been messing around in a test site I put together in Joomla for about the past week and I'm loving it, wish I tried it out sooner. Can't wait to see what I can really do in here with a little more time.
