Admin Components Menu Disappeared

Post by andrewpep » Fri May 06, 2011 3:17 am

So, in my default admin template. The Components Menu drop down has now practically disappeared. The normal Banners, Contacts, etc., Weblinks has now been truncated to just two drop downs! I didn't do any changing on the admin template. I'm not sure where to fix this!
Please, any assistance is appreciated.
Running Joomla 1.6.3 on Linux, PHP 5.2.16, MySQL 5.0.92.

I figured out the fix, though not the reason for the problem.
Grabbed the menutype "menu" in jos_menu in my backup mysql database. Imported them into current database. There were 7 lines missing, seems to fix the issue.
Anyone else come across this, and know why it happened to begin with?

I am having the same issue - kind of...

I created a second menu for a site, and for some reason a pile of the admin menus have got tied to it. In the menu manager I see i have 19 "unpublished" menu items, but nothing shows up when I try to see them in the menu manager.

However, when I go to any part of the admin area that shows menu items, I get my main menu items showing up just fine - and then on the second menu I have the one item i created and a HUGE pile of items that reads as follows:

- com_banners
- - com_banners
- - com_banners_categories
- - com_banners_clients
- - com_banners_tracks
- com_contact
- - com_contact
- - com_contact_categories
- com_messages
- - com_messages_add
- - com_messages_read
- com_newsfeeds
- - com_newsfeeds_feeds
- - com_newsfeeds_categories
- com_search
- com_weblinks
- - com_weblinks_links
- - com_weblinks_categories
- com_redirect

Obviously all items that correspond to the admin menu.

I went into my MySQL db via phpMyAdmin (I build offline using MAMP) and deleted the menu items, and lo and behold the Components menu of the admin section is emptied of everything - except any 3rd part extensions I have installed.

I did nothing out of the ordinary to make all those "unpublished" menu items show up - I've been using Joomla 1.5 since 2008 and never had a problem like this, especially on so basic a site (essentially a blog). This may be a 1.6 issue that needs addressing.

For now I will have to put up with this log list of items (why "unpublished" items show up in the assignment fields of the modules I'm working with is beyond me) as i have to get the site up and I doubt the client will notice these since they are dealing with articles. However any suggestion as to a) why it's happening and b) how to fix it without re-building the site from scratch would be useful.

A similar thing happened to me. I created a menu and for some odd reason, there were 19 unpublished items associated with it. I attempted to view the items, however, they didnt appear under the menu items.

I subsequently deleted the menu and thats when I noticed that the admin menu under components had nothing other than the thrid party extensions I had installed.

Quick fix:
1. open the joomla.sql file in the joomla 1.6\installation\sql\mysql folder
2. Find the "Insert into '#_menu'" data
3. copy the entire section (looks to be about 22 rows)
4. open phpmyadmin
5. select the jos_menu table
6. Click the 'SQL' tab
7. paste the information copied from the joomla.sql file
8. remove the information for the 'Menu Item Root' and the 'mainmenu' leaving only those with a menutype of "menu"
9. Click Go and Voila!

All admin components are restored.

Ofcourse, it goes without saying to back up anything before you make changes.

Hope this helps!

I have the same problem. My administrator component menu disappeared while I was creating a new menu and editing articles.

Is there a way to fix this permanently. The quick fix won't last very long if we don't know what is causing it.

Can anyone help please ?

Hi chynawhyte2,

Thank you very much for your guideline. I've had exactly the same problem and your advice of re-inserting the missing menu items from a fresh downloaded Joomla SQL did the trick.

The exact SQL insert statement in my case (Joomla 1.6) was the following:

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO `jos_menu` (`id`, `menutype`, `title`, `alias`, `note`, `path`, `link`, `type`, `published`, `parent_id`, `level`, `component_id`, `ordering`, `checked_out`, `checked_out_time`, `browserNav`, `access`, `img`, `template_style_id`, `params`, `lft`, `rgt`, `home`, `language`, `client_id`) VALUES
(2, 'menu', 'com_banners', 'Banners', '', 'Banners', 'index.php?option=com_banners', 'component', 0, 1, 1, 4, 0, 0, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', 0, 0, 'class:banners', 0, '', 1, 10, 0, '*', 1),

Well, i tried few ways to solve , especialy when i understood that the reason - why - is less important .
yot can try pass all sql tabels , and all php.index and all *.xml - to find what is wrong.
The best solution i can give to you is to install a new back-end menu modul .

I did it , and thats is . what does it matter about menu design and color when it is works ?
