Installation Error in 1.7.1 (and .2 and .3) thats NEW!

Post by chrispapa » Sat Nov 19, 2011 5:46 am

I have an existing 1.5.23 site that I have been updating and managing for a while, and there are lots of plugs and components in the site that arent 1.7 compatible, so the decision for the new site is to do a fresh install in a new subdirectory of the site, copy/paste the content over, and then replace the home directory with the contents of the sub-directory, change the config file, and boom ... new site is up.

Problem is that every time I upload a fresh install to the subdirectory, I get the following error when I attempt to start the install.

Code: Select all

Fatal error: Call to undefined method JException::setModel() in /home/********/public_html/newsite/installation/controller.php on line 64
This is a live server situation. I changed the error reporting status in the php.ini file as suggested in other threads.

I have tried a 1.7.0 install, a 1.7.2 install, and then downloaded a fresh 1.7.3 install and all failed, but exclusively on this site.

I have successfully installed the same package on the same server on a different domain without issue several times over the last few days as I am migrating all of my clients to a 1.7.x platform during the slow November and December months.

Of course, this is the only site of the ones I am doing that have any urgency behind them ... so I am WIDE OPEN to ideas.

Link didn't work completely, but I browsed through there and didn't find anything comparable.

Did you create a new subdirectory or did you try an install in the same subdirectory that you created to install Joomla 1.7?

With each failure, I have completely deleted the sub-directory and created a new sub with a new name.

Do you upload joomla zipped or you unzip it locally and then ftp into your server?

Unzipped it locally, and upload via FTP. Since I started this thread, I have used the same FTP and the same files, and completely uploaded and set up the base on 3 websites, but these are brand new sites in freshly created accounts.

Try and upload the whole zip file and unzip it on the server, also have a look at the folder permissions. It is very strange what is happening to you but try what I mentioned and also use Firefox and not chrome or IE. I am just testing some theories.

Well, I tried the same process - I created a new subdirectory, then did a complete install of a new 1.7.3 install unpacked .zip file. I uploaded the files with a different FTP Client (FileZilla versus CuteFTP) and it worked. Go figure. 2 days of beating my head against the wall, and it was the FTP Client causing the issue, or dumb luck - wither way, I am on the right path to launching a site in a few days.
