You might also want to change the directory name as well.

Also, you might want to copy the directory and make the name change to the new copy.

Hope this helps!
Thanks!

Using your FTP client,
Go to you templates folder in joomla and download your yootheme template folder.
I think you need to change the name in templatedetails.xml first <name>new_templatename</name>
Then rename the template folder.
Now open the template folder where you see css/fonts/html/js etc..
Select everything in there, right click and select "add to archive" (i'm using winrar)
Change archive format to .zip and click ok.
Now upload your newly named template inside joomla extension manager install feature.
Set your new template as default, you have the original there if it messes up :)

Yes, it works on 1.5 version but the new version is not that easy.

It worked for me on the latest joomla,
Try just renaming the actual folder.

Yes you want it to show /your_joomla_site/templates/your_template_name
It is possible that some of the files are linking to the original template name.
So you would need to check the template files change if needed, that's what i did.
which template is it?

It worked for me but i also had to change the url at the end of templatedetails.xml

Code: Select all

<fields name="params" addfieldpath="/templates/your_template/warp/systems/joomla.1.7/config/elements">
Otherwise some of the links are broke.

I tried it on the latest joomla, maybe the template was an updated version not sure.

From templatedetails.xml

Code: Select all

<extension version="1.7" type="template" client="site">
	<name>your_tenplate</name>
	<version>1.0.0</version>

No the name of the Template is defined in TemplateDetails.xml file
  • Download the folder for the for the Template you want to modify
  • Rename the folder
  • Rename the language files
  • Edit the TemplateDetails.xml to reflect the changes
  • zip the folder up and install.
Renaming the Folder etc. will stop it being overwritten when updating.

Also note that in older versions of Joomla the paths were hardcoded in some of the standard Template files.

  2. Rename the folder
  3. Rename the language files
  4. Edit the TemplateDetails.xml to reflect the changes
  5. zip the folder up and install.

As the Template name and language filenames are changed then it seems good practice to change the language Keys to match.

e.g
If you change the name of the beez_20 Template to my_template
and en-GB.tpl_beez_20.ini to en-GB.tpl_my_template.ini
and en-GB.tpl_beez_20.sys.ini to en-GB.tpl_my_template.sys.ini

then

change the Key's
TPL_BEEZ2_FIELD_WRAPPERSMALL_DESC to TPL_MYTEMPLATE_FIELD_WRAPPERSMALL_DESC
etc.

If nothing else it will show that the correct files are being read, otherwise the Key's would show instead of the text. But it keeps things neat.

Ah OK! In my case I was using a template from YOOtheme and language files look generic and dont mention the original template name.

Thanks for your clarification though, sure it will help in the future.

Hi to all,

To change all information from a template to a new one just edit the templateDetails.xml file and replace all the information with yours and then in extensions manager click in discover and joomla will discover your just changed template. Just select the template and click install.

Very Important: Avoid the use of "&" even in <description> params. Joomla won't install the template if you use that character.

Hope yhis help someone.

Tested in Joomla 3.2 with a template from yoothemes

Regards,

Pedro
