2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Update
Current Joomla Version: 2.5.4. When I go to Extension Manager > Update, click Purge Cache, then click Find Updates, Joomla says "There are no updates available at the moment."
However, if I go to Site > Control Panel, it says, Joomla 2.5.5 Update Now!.
Is this a bug? The update should show up in both places.

Guess it's time to downgrade. Articles are also missing the Publishing Options.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Figured out the issue with Publishing Options not appearing: There is a global and article specific option to show or not show article publishing options. Somehow, this got turned off.
I did downgrade to 2.5.4. Too many bugs in 2.5.5.

The upgrade for the core no longer shows up in that spot. You have to go to Components-Joomla Upgrade to find them.

My installation does not have a Components > Joomla Upgrade. Do you mean go to Control Panel?

@pxforti
All joomla 2.5 installations should have a components-Joomla Upgrade. Look in Extension manager-Manage to ensure that you have that component installed. you should, it's a core component. It might just be disabled, for some reason.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Moonfire, thanks for update. I DO have the component installed, and it appears in the Control Panel, but it is NOT in the Components Menu. I think this is a continuing problem with sites upgraded from 1.5. For some reason, upgrades do not add the menu item to the database.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
I have a similar problem but on only one of several sites. The sites that successfully upgraded to 2.5.5 do NOT have components-Joomla-upgrade listed in Extensions Manager > Manage.
The 'problem' site [www.nynehead.org] upgraded extensions ok but not the core Joomla. Also the CP has only 12 buttons, lacking the two buttons for 'Joomla' and 'Extension' updates that appear on all the other sites which have 14 buttons in all. Nor is the current version of Joomla [2.5.4] cited at the bottom of the nynehead.org CP page as it is on other websites, but it IS listed under the Site > System Information as 2.5.4. Stable [Ember] with a date.
Apart from this the site all appears to be fine. Any ideas how to tweak nynehead.org to include the apparently absent core features? Thanks anyone

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Feste, I had to go into the database and add the Joomla Updates link to the menu. Since I have other sites to compare it to, I used their database to see how to add it. The Joomla Components are in menu under xx_menu where xx is your table prefix. It would be nice to know if there is a way to repair this without going into the database since that is always a risky adventure, especially for those not familiar with myslq or without access to database tools like phpmyadmin.
Also note: some people are reporting that the New and Save as Copy buttons are missing from articles. I also saw this too in my aborted upgrade.
Anyone know how an easy repair for missing items like this? On one of my sites (previous upgrade), I had to manually install the admin module that displays Joomla version at bottom of admin screen.

P.S. You might want to wait for 2.5.6, which I read should be released today or very soon. Maybe that will fix the problem.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
FWIW, the update component is new to 2.5.4. 2.5.3 and earlier should still be able to use the Extension Manager to get the updates. If not, then we need to double check the XML file is being updated properly.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Joomla 2.5.6 now available.
Run the Update manager again and make sure to check the Database tab in the Extension Manager and click the Fix button to make sure the database is up to date too.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Thanks for the heads up humvee. Done as you suggested, and thanks for the advice to check DB. But as before, one of my Joomla sites still differs from all the others; successfully upgraded to 2.5.6 but still lacks a listing for components-Joomla-upgrade in Extensions Manager > Manage. Also the CP still has only 12 of 14 buttons, the two buttons for 'Joomla' and 'Extension' updates are missing. Current version of Joomla [2.5.6] continues to be listed under the Site > System Information but does not show at foot of CP.
Apart from this the site all appears to be fine and works.
Just wondering what might happen if I try to install the complete 2.5.6 package. The website is quite a large one [nynehead.org] and so I'm anxious not to blow it up!

On some other issues overwriting individual directories seems to have done the trick.feste wrote:Thanks for the heads up humvee. Done as you suggested, and thanks for the advice to check DB. In your case it is everything (nearly)
- BACKUP YOUR SERVER AND DATABASE FIRST
- Download and unpack the full stable package of Joomla locally to Joomla_2.5.6-Stable-Full_Package.
- In your FTP client (Ideally WinSCP or FileZilla)
- Navigate to the Joomla_2.5.6-Stable-Full_Package/ directory
- Delete the installation/ directory.
- Upload all the directories and their contents to overwrite the same location on your server.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Thanks humvee. I am going to back-track a little as I seem to have buggered the whole thing at the moment. So going to revert to a 2.5.4 installation and upgrade again from there. Then, if the CP buttons are still awol will do as you suggest - and let you know the outcome! Thanks again.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
http://nynehead.org The Case of the Missing Control Panel Buttons - continues!
Done so far; I reverted to the last backup of the website which was 2.5.4 Tidied it up a bit [mainly deleting some 200 spambot registrations] got it all hunky-dorey, backed that up then, as you suggested, overwrote the installed files but with those of the Joomla_2.5.4-Stable-Full_Package barring the installation directory.
The website seems entirely oblivious of the changes. Works fine etc, but still only 12 buttons in the CP - still missing the two buttons for 'Joomla' and 'Extension' updates. And no sign of the [mythical?] components-Joomla-upgrade in Extensions Manager > Manage.
Any help much appreciated. I can give back-end access should that be of any help?

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Damn! Forgot all about that. But had a look just now and there was a whole lot of stuff listed as errors. Clicked 'fix' but got this message:
"Database schema version (2.5.6) does not match CMS version (2.5.4)."
Which I guess is trying to tell me to update the site from 2.5.4 to 2.5.6? But I'd have expected the DB to have used the 2.5.4 'schema'.
Have disabled that back end access [for Joomla Master] in case I forgot as am going to be a bit hither and yon for the next few days and didn't want to leave a rather public hole in the defences.
I can't see an upgrade to get from 2.5.4 to 2.5.6. There's a 2.5.0 to 2.5.6; would that do? or should I proceed stepwise via 2.5.5?
Thanks for the help!

Yep Well I deleted that access note from your post as it is unsafe to do things like that and I don't generally do "house calls" .

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
No the 2.5.0 to 2.5.6 covers all bases (versions) in between.feste wrote:I can't see an upgrade to get from 2.5.4 to 2.5.6. There's a 2.5.0 to 2.5.6; would that do? or should I proceed stepwise via 2.5.5?
However further to my previous question try this instead:
- Go to Extensions => Extension Manager -> Install tab
- In the Install from URL field enter This is the path to the Joomla_2.5.0_to_2.5.6-Stable-Patch_Package.zip on JoomlaCode.
Code: Select all
http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/17174/74751/Joomla_2.5.0_to_2.5.6-Stable-Patch_Package.zip
- CLICK Install
- Note: There may be some delay as the system does this method of updating, depending on connection speed and all the other factors. So there may be quite a (seeming) long time.
- This process should also automatically have updated (Fixed) the database but check this anyway.
- Go to Extensions => Extension Manager -> Database
- CLICK Fix button.
- Report back and let us know how it went.

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Many thanks for the instruction! Did exactly as suggested but still no 'Joomla' and 'Extension' updates buttons and no Joomla version showing on CP. But it's 2.5.6 according to the system info. Did as you suggested with the DB. No errors reported. Click 'fix' for the hell of it. No change. Logged out, logged back in, emptied browser cache and somewhere along the line opened a can of Guinness which someone has now drunk! B.t.w., I've logged on with both Firefox and Chrome. No difference. Here's a screenshot

Re: 2.5.5 Update Does Not Appear In Extension Manager > Upda
Been comparing the problem site with the OK sites and notice what migfht be a significant difference. In the problem Control Panel, under Components, there is no 'Joomla Update' option; instead there is a 'J2XML Importer' option which is NOT on the OK sites. I have no idea what it is or how it came to be there. Do I want it? I've certainly never used it and feel no overwhelming urge to play with it. Clicking on it opens a control panel type screen screen with "Welcome to J2XML" and "Support us" stuff on the right; on the left is a solitary CP type square button for 'Article manager'. Clicking it does what it says on the tin.
