I found the hidden injection inside the com_content folder in default.php.

Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
I would recommend staying away from anything that Joomlashack has. I used them for a template for a business I was helping about 8 years ago and they seemed good at the time so I decided to try them again. They had a bunch of templates on the less expensive side that they have on site stating that they work with Joomla 3.2.X but I found out the hard way they don't work like they're supposed to. Also, they don't tell you that in order to make them work right you have to purchase a slideshow plugin separately so your cost goes from x to y in a heartbeat.pfergi42 wrote:I wanted to follow here as I have done a lot of research. Also, they're tech support blows. If you look at their forum there are a lot of people waiting for responses for days on end with no response. When you do finally get in touch with them they blame the problem on the installation of Joomla instead of their debugging program. I've been installing Joomla for quite a few years now and I find it insulting that they could imply that it was a core problem. Their tech person pointed me to a link showing a site where it was working to which I replied "that's really helpful, NOT".
In fairness, they did finally give me a refund but they still blame the problem on the Joomla core installation.

Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
I prefer the following:
(1)
http://t3-framework.org/
2 blank templates, one using Bootstrap 2 the other using Bootstrap 3.
(2)
http://www.joomlart.com/joomla/templates/purity-iii
Bootstrap 3 template.
Both are a clean, responsive, and easily configurable template.

You should steer clear from free templates. Some of them are filled with malicious content/code. By the way, your title seems to be confusing.

You are darn right with that. However Arthur is right. Most reliable tempate clubs/frameworks offer a free master template: Yootheme/Rockettheme/Gavick/Joomlart/Joomlashack and others. These are for instance all definitely "clean"kayeshandra85 wrote:You should steer clear from free templates. Some of them are filled with malicious content/code. We have warned against a lot of "free" templates since they always have dirt in it stealing either your bandwidth or redirecting search engines and a lot more dirt

Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
Over a year ago there was talk about making the JTD (Joomla Template Directory). I actually thought they were going to make it, but it appears the idea fell through sadly. It would be great if Joomla had a section for approved templates. People can report the ones with malicious code.mbdixon wrote:Is it possible then to have a Joomla approved list of templates so that us novices/amateurs can use one with confidence without having to worry about security issues?

Many free templates could be found at joomla24.com. However, it's hard to find a valuable clean one at there. Free templates might have limit points and errors. You should find free templates from popular template providers. They offers some great free ones. Some big template providers are:mbdixon wrote:Is it possible then to have a Joomla approved list of templates so that us novices/amateurs can use one with confidence without having to worry about security issues?leolam wrote:You are darn right with that. Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
I found this page looking for some alternatives, but wanted to post because there seem to be a lot of people new to Joomla posting here.
I've been using Joomla for a number of years now... anyone remember Mambo? And as a general rule, I know this has been mentioned before, but beware of free templates. Go with reputable companies that have been doing this for a while like Rockettheme, Joomlashack and Joomlart. It's worth a few dollars (and most are inexpensive) to buy a relatively cheap template. This way you become a member of that community with access to forums and customer service if problems do arise. And they will.
I personally have had the best luck with Rocket theme products (including the Gantry framework) as they have a good forum with lots of contributors in the event of problems or just 'how-to' questions. I personally like Gantry as a starting point, but it's now so familiar to me and something of a clean slate... like starting with Bootstrap, I know what I'm getting in the package.
But the same caution can be applied to components and plugins. Free is sometimes a false economy. Likewise, for a nominal fee you typically get decent after-purchase support, and extended functionality from something that costs relatively little. And again, you subscribe to their network which will then (usually) contact you in the event of a security update you may need to act upon quickly. This last point is HUGE... no CMS, or plugin of any type is full-proof... and time is of essence when a compromise of any description is on the loose. (Note: Akeeba backup was recently breached, which some think should be a part of Joomla core... and I can barely bring myself to mention the recent Drupal compromise in October... nightmare)
There are free things out there, and some are indeed good. But be cautious and consider whether the headache is worth it to get something free when 'cheap' may be the far better option. Especially if you're doing a site for a client who'll have expectations of your work beyond the site launch.
These are good tips no matter what your CMS of choice is... I've worked with Joomla mostly (and much prefer it), but have also developed sites in Wordpress, Drupal, Magento, Umbraco and others. There's plenty of good stuff out there to stand upon the shoulders of those who have gone before you, but use a little common sense where free stuff is concerned. Do a little research and consider what the ramifications could be if you use something you're unsure of.
Obviously, if you're here, you're already doing your homework, so well done!

Might be an idea to stick to the default templates (e.g. Beez) and just edit these as you need.

Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
The recently discovered Akeeba security vulnerability could only be exploited in a rare set of circumstances and was promptly fixed. I am not aware that Akeeba or any other website was actually breached using this particular exploit.nickphipps wrote:Note: Akeeba backup was recently breached
In any case, I do agree that it can be risky installing free templates from developers that are not well known or who haven't been established for very long and it is better to support established developers with a sustainable business model who don't have to insert malware into their tempates to make a living!

Re: Best free Joomla 3.0 templates
This topic is a mess. The poster asked about recommended free templates. And yet this topic is being spammed with links to websites, not templates.
Your replies are useless! Anyone can get those links via google for goodness sake!
Read this: "FREE TEMPLATE". You don't need a degree in rocket science to know that the poster is NOT asking for links to websites.
All the self promoting spammers should be banned. And the rest need reading lessons.
It's this kind of nonsense that makes these forums less and less helpful and an unreliable source of information.
