Site optimisation for a newb?

Post by stigzler » Mon Jul 09, 2018 5:20 pm

Hi folks. I've potentially got a complicated setup. My site is very sluggish, and can't figure why despite trying lots of things.

I'm serving form my Windows Home Server 2011 via IIS.

I installed Joomla, PHP, WinCache and MySQL form the IIS manager Web Platform installer. All OK

I've enabled Gzip, also installed JotCache and enabled (tried different combos of joomla default cahche and jot chache enabled - can't see any discrenebale difference, but cant find advice on whether two sould run together).

Also using JCH optimise.

I ran a diagnostic via GTMetrix on one of my pages (http://magoarcade.org/jmain/index.php/issues). There are some suspicious culprits in there, and I don't know what to do with them! Here's one screenie:

some other 404 errors that I don't know how to fix (in cache and K2):

and this is what has me really worried:

It looks like the template's "variables, mixins, forms and wells" are causing quite a hang on page loads alongside other probelms?

however, I have no idea how to fix this. Any ideas?

I'm not sure it's the server (although could be mysql??) as my dokuwiki installation on the same domain is nice and zippy: http://magoarcade.org/dokuwiki/MagoDoku ... ine_tuning

Sorry - bit of a newb!

First make this site really work, u don't have content, you have not friendly urls etc.
But the best start is here:

https://www.jch-optimize.net/87-documen ... rials.html

Thanks but done both of those. Think the problem maybe more specific.

While I can't help directly please note the following for future reference:

For a newbie, it is worth your while to use the Forum Post assistant, as outlined in the pink section at the top of the page: Forum Post Assistant - If you are serious about wanting help, you will use this tool to help you post. so please use the tool found at viewtopic.php?f=714&t=793531

Also please exercise a little patience (that means sometimes, more than 3 days). The right person to answer your question may not be available (i.e. working in another job) or not located in your timezone, or a relatively close time zone or country.

By your own admission your set-up is complicated, and outside the normal setup most users of Joomla are using Linux with MySQL (rather than Windows/IIS). Even on Localhost (not live hosting), I use WAMPServer running Apache, MySQL and PHP (my Windows 7 edition doesn't come with IIS).

I'm sure someone will answer your questions in due time.

GZip compression: Your template is using the Helix-3 platform. Enable gzip compression (Turn on GZip Compression). https://prnt.sc/dx2k94 (copied from another post)

Expired headers: Should be handled properly by JCH-Pro (!) It does for our sites.

I am also worried about your template and if this is properly coded. I am having very bad experiences with Joomla clients using free templates. The bad requests are clearly from a bad coded template

Your server is not at fault....
