Does anybody use the VPS on DreamHost.com?

Post by Ironside » Sat Jul 07, 2018 7:58 pm

Basically, the title says it all, I'm looking for opinions regarding the VPS hosting that dream host offer. I'm thinking about moving my websites over to dream host. However, I need to be certain that the package will be able to cope with my main website. Unfortunately, dream host will not divulge any information regarding what the limit is of their RAM. I think I've just got to remove my website there and then hope that it works. I think I'll probably pay another months hosting with site ground so I don't shoot myself in the foot if nothing works and dream host.

So if anyone can help I would appreciate it very much

That's not really the answer I was looking for. I have been looking at the VPS dashboard at dream host and to be honest I'm completely flummoxed because it doesn't look anything like what I'm used to. I don't even know where to start. When I make a backup of my Joomla! websites they will be downloaded in a JPA format. Obviously, I need to be able to upload them onto the VPS and have them working properly alongside the database.

I have asked. They are helpful but I think when it comes to Joomla! I was hoping that I may get better advice on here if somebody themselves is using exactly the same VPS. I'm not sure if they are that familiar with the Joomla! platform.

Any vps is not related with joomla. You can use commands, you can use a host control panel and ftp to handle what you want. I don t know what dreamhost offers. And if you have managed support they can do things for you except joomla support(the most host companies). So it is what you deal with them.

As you can see, the dashboard on the VPS is somewhat different to what I am used to and to be honest with you it feels like the first day I ever decided I was going to create a website.

I find that difficult to reconcile with information available to us on the internet (see https://www.dreamhost.com/hosting/vps/). The amount of physical memory (i.e. RAM) available to VPS users is dependent on the DreamHost package that its customers purchase.

I don't know the specific answers to your question about what to do when you purchase your DreamHost VPS or how to configure for Joomla, sorry. However, in terms of what it means for physical memory utilisation, I refer to another question that you asked—that we replied to—but you haven't provided any feedback whether the information you sought was what you were looking for. It would be nice to get some closure w.r.t. your other question. 8)

As i saw(searching in google) they have guides for their host control panel. Every new host control panel is difficult at the begin. But if you want to use a host control panel that you want you can ask them to purchase and install the host control panel that you want.
