Header issue: code appears instead of website

Hi,
For some reasons, at different intervals, my website displays code instead of the site itself.

I initially asked the hosting company if there was any issue with php or apache or anything else that could be causing this and they said no, it was the site itself.
I posted about it on stackoverflow and this was the best response:

"you have a problem with you joomla installation, the html header shows:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/rss+xml; charset=utf-8" />
So the browser thinks it's and RSS feed in XML, and shows it as XML. It should be

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
check your joomla installation and/or reinstall it."

So, I have updated the joomla to latest version but that did not help.

I believe that the error occurs when i do something in the admin. For instance, a little while ago, i saved a k2 item and after doing so, I noticed that the site was coded. Not sure if it occurred immediately after but the site was ok minutes before i saved the article and a few minutes afterwards, upon inspection, it was code, not a site.

I am not a coder so if anybody knows what the issue might be, if you can dummy down the solution, that would be great.

the php code displays not the site

Before I ran this script, I posted in the Joomla forum. Here is the link viewtopic.php?f=709&t=970545 I asked the host to take a look at the report. She did. There was an error in the php section. She set the site to an earlier version. That is all that has been done.

Try disabling all third party extensions via the Extension manager, and check if the error persists. If it changes, start enabling one extension at a time and check.

Yes, i have tried that before but since the script here lists those extensions, that might make it easy. The problem is, i have not identified what triggers it. I suspect it is the admin or some operation in the admin only because i have definitely noticed the problem at some time somewhat after i made some type of operation step, such as save an item. I try to look at the site right before i do the operation and then check back to see if anything has been impacted, but sometimes, frankly, everything looks good and then minutes later, bam!! the site is showing code once again. thank you

I am still having this issue (as of this moment, it is still displaying code on the live site rather than the content) and so here are my thoughts:
1. One thing i have noticed is that when i use the admin for a specific action, I get the code issue. This morning, I have click on the structure data program twice and both times, after a relatively short interim (perhaps five or ten minutes), I noticed that the site started to display the code on the front. I have disabled that extension but the front of the site has not yet reappeared, it is still code. I would have thought that if the extension were the problem, the site would quickly come back up, but so far, it has not. Thoughts?

Separately, assuming this program is not the culprit, i am wondering is it possible to completely remove joomla from the site and then install the most recent version? I am using k2 and so that would be an issue also since i don't want to lose any of my items. What i am trying to do is isolate joomla vs. the 3rd party extensions this way, if i complete that process and the issue reoccurs, I would know for a fact that the issue is not with joomla but with one of the 3rd party extensions. I did that Forum Post Assistant as noted above and just want to ensure there are no joomla issues and server issues. Thanks

Header issue: code appears instead of website

the php code displays not the site

I have significantly disabled virtually all of the 3rd party extensions. The only enabled 3rd party components remaining on site are k2, JCE, Gantry Gantry 4, modules anywhere. The modules, plugins and packages are related to those and are necessary to the functioning of a k2 Joomla site with template. That is it. Still i am getting the same issue with site but the frequency has increased.

I have significantly disabled all of the 3rd party extensions on the site as recommended. All that is remaining is k2, template, Gantry-related and template related. Everything else has been disabled. Still, I encountered the same problem. I posted the latest test above. I am spending a tremendous amount of time trying to fix this and would appreciate some assistance please. Is there another or different forum that perhaps i should post? Thanks,

There must be major misconfiguration of the site or the server. Find and disable all RSS extensions, they could be the contributing factor to the XML output when a link is clicked.

Get the site back to basic settings
- disable SEF in global configuration
- set error reporting to maximum
- set Protostar as default template
- disable all Rok extensions
- disable all gantry extensions
- is K2 up to date?
- check the HTACCESS file to confirm that no instruction is setting the out put to XML.

Test the site. If it still output as XML, hire an expert.
