Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
Hope someone can please help. Running Joomla 3.9.4 and using the default Protostar template.
A customer can select an existing article via the front-end once they have logged in. They have all admin rights up to Super user.
Once they select an article they want to edit, it opens up for them to amend. If they then select the tab labelled 'Category*', it is greyed out and they are unable to change the category the article can be assigned to.
Can anyone please shed some light on this and know of any way I can me this selectable?
Many thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
Hmmm, I installed a fresh version of Joomla 3.9.5 and am using Protostar with no changes at all. Changing category is greyed out when I try and change it after logging into the front-end.
I have super-user permissions. I've set permissions to all of the options but still the same.

Re: Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
Yes, I do confirm that one cannot change the category in an existing article from the front-end, even when logged in with Super User privileges.
Whereas, if it is a new article creation and submission from the front-end, one could choose the category.

That doesn't work for me either. I just created a new article in the front end, then went to it via the front-end bu the 'category*' drop-down is still greyed out.

Looks like a feature was incorrectly removed but nobody is going to put it right.

I really hope it is as my client relies on that small feature.

Re: Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
A patch has been proposed modifying this to allow Publishers to modify the category (still preventing authors to do so).

Re: Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
Please test the patch. It is already RTC.
The file below replaces administrator/components/com_content/models/article.php
Here is a zip of the file: Then please mark your test OK at https://issues.joomla.org/tracker/joomla-cms/24640

Re: Cannot change an articles category in the front-end.
I replaced the article.php file with the patch and the problem from the front-end was solved, but now I am experiencing issues with the back-end:
when accessing content->articles, I get the following
An error has occurred.
0 Call to a member function get() on null

@yannews
Please do not necropost! Specially when this has been solved and merged for long and the path you post is a backend path, unrelated to all the above...
