Leaving Joomla! ???

Post by df23 » Sun Apr 21, 2019 9:11 am

I have been running websites for local charities using Joomla! ever since it was born. One charity has a few bespoke components which one of our volunteers has written and maintains.

He has said that he thinks we should ditch Joomla! and look for a replacement. This is because it seems that every time there is even a minor Joomla! upgrade he is having to change our components. I have never written components so i don't know how bad this really is.

He is looking at ProcessWire and Drupal.

Any suggestions on what can persuade him to remain with Joomla!?

thanks
Dave

Nope. Nobody is forcing him to use Joomla. Encourage him to try other CMS's and see how non flexible they are. The biggest problem with Joomla updates is badly written 3rd party extensions and badly configured servers.

Until he tries he will always wonder.

It is actual very simple.... Have somebody who knows what she/he is doing remake that component and you never have to worry about upgrades. The person does not know how to utilize the framework and MVC to write proper coded extensions. Change developer!
