Looking for suggestions

Post by TiferMendos » Wed Nov 13, 2019 9:49 am

Can someone suggest a CMS solution, that is as easy to setup as WAMP and Wordpress, but can, out of the box, or with very little configuration, allow an web portal to be visible to users on a LAN? To date, I have installed WAMP, XAMPP with Wordpress and Drupal, and while they look great one ONE computer, I absolutely cannot view more than the wp-admin page on any other computer on the local network .

Looking for free CMS with users, credit-system, and maybe even tournament-support

Post by DiferMendos » Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:02 am

Hey, as described in the title.

I have been checking out Joomla, Silverstripe, Wordpress and MODX.
There might be some mods or plugins available fitting some of my needs.

Does anybody know of anything good and somewhat simple to work with.
I have some programming knowledge, so I would be ready to add necessary features like tournament-mode.

Thanks to anyone willing to help out.

As long as Wampserver has been installed correctly, Joomla works perfectly all right in a LAN environment. Did you read the sticky topics at the Wampserver forum? The documentation has detailed installation instructions and also how to set up virtual hosts in Apache so that you can host several websites.

Make sure that the local DNS server has the internal domain with the correct IP address of the workstation hosting the website. A simple test can be organised by using a fake domain and adding it to the hosts file on the other workstations and the workstation hosting the Wampserver bundle.

Joomla is a solid CMS with a lot of functionality in the core. Users + Authorization (ACL) is built-in the core.

For other non-core functionality you'll need 3rd party (non-core) extensions. A lot of those are listed in the Joomla Extension Directory: https://extensions.joomla.org/
