Google says my site is loading slow
Hi all,
I have setup a site
www.puppylanetreats.com.au
Joomla 3.9
Template mx_joomla157
Virtuemart 3.8
PHP - 7.4.7
I did a Google PageSpeed Insights, the results were pretty bad, 17 for mobile, and 34 for desktop.
I have adjusted the images to what is suggested on the web, but I think they are too pixelated now, then did another test, the results weren't as good as I thought they would be, 25 for mobile, and 43 for desktop.
Could someone give me some advise on what to do about it.
Thanks Annie

Re: Google says my sight is loading slow
First update your joomla. The latest version is 3.9.20. You must check also to update your third party extensions too. If you have any extension that you not use you must uninstall it. Also you must enable joomla cache. Your most big issue in google pagespeed is "Reduce initial server response time" and this depends from your server.

Hi Ribo,
Thanks for your response. I do have the latest Joomla 3.9.20, I just didn't put the .20 on.
I did as you suggested and turned on joomla cache, but now on Google Page Speed, instead of having 43 issues I now have 63?
Have you got any other suggestions that I can do?
Thanks Annie

First of all about joomla cache it s better to have conservative cache on and also to enable the cache plugin. Also you can use jch optimize plugin https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/jch-optimize/. And you must have Gzip Page Compression enabled. But i say again that the most important think to have a faster joomla website is the server and as you can see you have "Reduce initial server response time" in google pagespeed insights. Also the template is important how clean it is.

Hi Ribo,
I have turned on the conservative cache and enabled Gzip Page Compression.
Also have downloaded jch-optimize and will install it on my site.
I guess there is nothing I can do about the response time of the server is there? Surely it is whatever my hosting company gives me, is that right?
As for the template I wouldn't know how to check how clean it is, could you give me a suggestion to check that. Is there a way to clean it up if it needs it, I am basically a beginner with that sort of thing.
I do love the design and layout of this template and haven't really seen something like it, so hopefully it will work.

Yes this depends from what it gives you your host server

Generally the paid templates are much better from the free templates. It s not fair to promote a template company here and i advise you to search in google about companies that have good and light joomla templates.
Note that the templates must be updated every time there is an update.

Nice website, though. First, I think you need to test the page speed of your theme from the demo page of the theme provider whether it is slow or not. If it is slow then you need to change the theme. After that follow some tips on the internet or this forum of optimizing Joomla.

Try optimizing your images by resizing them to the display size, you can also use tools like tinypng (google it) to optimize the size (kb) of the images without damaging the quality. I would also suggest looking into CDN hosting solutions.

You can ask and buy/upgrade with more memory & cpu power from the hosting provider making Joomla faster automatically if you using more power = increased speed of your web site.

If you just review the score you are not that bad.... You need to work on your images (no app can do that) and download a good compression tool. We use in our operations https://saerasoft.com/caesium (image compressor) which works like a charm.
Also you should never upload images directly from your digital camera or mobile since they will contain exif info which increases bytes dramatically. Google for "remove exif information from image" and you find tons of options such as https://www.verexif.com/en. A very good and open source image manipulator is https://www.xnview.com/en/ (we use XNviewMP in our operations) One of the hundreds of functionalities is the removal of exif data in batch.
Hope this helps.... GTmetrix gives you good advise

Definitely try JCH Optimize. We've had good results.
And using a CDN is also a good suggestion. Your host may provide a CDN (Content Delivery Network) or there are 3rd parties like CloudFlare that will provide the service.
