Waiting for Fabrik for J4, otherwise Good-bye, Joomla!
Well, it's clear to me now that Fabrik will never get over the hump of being ported to J4, and I've just read that the plans for J5 focus more on optimization of the core and less on backwards compatibility. So even if Fabrik does get ported to J4 (which seems unlikely), the tool would be very likely to require an equally heavy lift to update for J5 in the future. Of course, this makes investing in the port to J4 even less attractive.
So, so long Joomla. You've been a fine CMS. But without Fabrik or something equivalent, I'm just not that into you.

Re: Good-bye, Joomla
Follow up: Your complaint should be with Fabrik, not Joomla! Fabrik is responsible to making their platform work in Joomla!, not the other way around. It appears as though you are shooting the horse [Joomla!] when it is still trotting instead of looking at the "load" [Fabrik] in the wagon first.

Re: Good-bye, Joomla
You’re totally right, Herb. I do blame Fabrik. And I kick myself for having invested so much time in it. But until/unless Joomla can attract a similar extensions to it’s platform, my interest in Joomla is meh. Perhaps a goodbye thread is pointless to most, but someone must wonder/care about what causes people to leave Joomla, so I’m letting those people know why I stopped using Joomla.
Regarding the announcement, it was made and what they said was that there is that the current owner has no plans/resources to update the project, and no one to transition the project to. Basically, barring a white knight, the project is folding.

Re: Good-bye, Joomla
As with all organizations, the problems are usually manifested "at the top" and there has been much discussion along those lines.
Because Joomla!, above its core and default functionalities, the development of Extensions to "do this and that," is left up to third parties, who create them to make money. If I were an Extension developer, I would not spend time with Extensions that have limited interest, re: Fabrik. It isn't something that a high percentage of users have an interest in using, etc. etc.
So it is really up to them to upgrade, but if only a couple of hundred people use it, no telling what their attitude would be. Although, if an Extension has been created for J! 3, there isn't any real reason why it cannot be upgraded to J! 4.
Anyway, keeping fingers crossed.

Re: Good-bye, Joomla
I read this dated September 29:
Work is progressing on a version of Fabrik for Joomla 4. There is a private group of individual developers who are working on it. We have a limited functionality version that installs with a limited number of plugins but basically yo can create lists/forms and a subset of element types (the most widely used ones). We have more work to do and are actively working on it. We hope to be ready for a limited beta test within a few months. As we are sure you are aware, this is a big task.

Re: Good-bye, Joomla
To be able to test the alpha3-package you need PHP 8.1 and Joomla 4 vanilla. The bugs can be reported to GitHub. Already some bugs has been found.

Glad to here that. It is a nice extension, when you have got it working. But a bit difficult before that. Similar to Gantry 5 I would say.

Re: Waiting for Fabrik for J4, otherwise Good-bye, Joomla!
I am using the beta2 for Fabrik for Joomla 4 and it is working very well. Pay attention to the download as it is over 80MB (because it includes many plugins). Also be aware that most of the plugins are turned off by default. If you need a plugin, then go to Joomla plugins and enable the ones you need. I am using this with PHP 8.1 and Joomla 4.2.5

Re: Waiting for Fabrik for J4, otherwise Good-bye, Joomla!
beta2c is out with even more fixes. I have used beta2c to update several Joomla 3.10 websites to Joomla 4.2.5 without a single error. So I think it is safe to say that Fabrik has been successfully ported to Joomla 4.

Re: Waiting for Fabrik for J4, otherwise Good-bye, Joomla!
I have updated my newly migrated Joomla 4.2.6 site to Fabrik 4 beta4b. There were only one big problem for pages with Fabrik I had to use Cassiopeia as template. Gantry 5 did not work. I have two Fabrik forms with radio buttons and calculations and in those tooltips does not work yet and radio buttons are locked by tooltips plugin jmootips.

Re: Waiting for Fabrik for J4, otherwise Good-bye, Joomla!
Earlier Regularlabs tooltips worked for Fabriks on Joomla 3.10, but it is not available for Joomla 4. Tested 3 free tooltips extensions for Joomla 4 and they did not work for Fabrik, but two in articles. I removed tooltips and added tthem as text.
