Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
Do you mean the backup.sql? i compressed the folder & uploaded it to phpmyadmin database, xx_advise.sql.zip, you saying upload & extract backup.sql & kickstart file to mysite.eu? appreciate youPer Yngve Berg wrote: ↑Sun Dec 25, 2022 11:44 am You only need only 2 files, the Backup and kickstart.php on an empty site and an empty database.

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
Like to express my sincere gratitude to you & webdongle, you both been very helpful, season greetings to you, the site in question is J3.10, with VM 4.0.12, recently upgraded host server version php 7.4, to 8.0.1, before the backup, was getting prompted to do this, in Joomla administrator panel, support ended i think October, can i have wamp & xampp servers on same pc, or you reckon i should just used xampp, fact is i have never used wampserverAMurray wrote: ↑Sun Dec 25, 2022 10:28 pm Also be aware, ensure you're using a correct release of XAMPP because it only ships with a specific PHP version (e.g. with 7.4 or 8.0 or 8.1 according to their download page (at the time of writing).
As Joomla 3.10 doesn't run on PHP 8.1 or higher, I would suggest using WAMPServer instead of XAMPP, because one advantage is you can install additional PHP versions by way of add-ins and can choose the PHP version you want to work with on the fly without reinstalling the server software (as you would need to do with XAMPP).

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
You reckon editing the php version in php.ini, to a lower version as suggested last input, might resolve the issue

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
No. Akeeba compresses the files, database and installer into the .jpa file.
To install the backup:
1. Put the .jpa and kickstart.php in the folder where you want your copy
2. Point your browser at kickstart.php
3. Run kickstart
4. When kickstart has finished unpacking the files you follow the instructions it gives you.

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
That won't work with xampp. But Wamp the php can be changed on the fly

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
You probably can't run two web server software (I wouldn't recommend it) because you'll find some conflicts there (over web server 'port' and mysql 'port' numbers). Not to say you can't change the port numbers....but it just creates complications.

Not at the same time but you can have more than one on a PC. So long as you only have one running at a time

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
I initially thought the OP meant running both at same time, which won't work.
But even so, you would still use the copy site method as discussed above (with Akeeba Backup/Kickstart) to move site from XAMPP to WAMP.

Nope those are different files
You can delete obsolete backups so long as you have a working backup.

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
when i use microsoft edge browser, restore backup, works partially, the error 404 is now on default Joomla template, after assigning it in database table, however on firefox browser still redirects to live site, also prompting for verification, when i attempt to login at localhost/www.mysite.com/administrator
have since deleted the obsolete backups, am thinking akeeba component might blocking access, below is latest generated fpa diagnostic

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
You cannot run J! 3.anything with PHP 8.1; the best you can hope for (as far as J! 3.10.11 is concerned) is PHP 8.0. You will probably do better with PHP 7.4.
Have you cleared the [Firefox] browser cache? Do you know how to clear the browser cache?
Have you thought about enabling J! debug mode and set the error reporting level to "maximum" to get the error trace and find out what happens before the 404 error is generated. A "404 error" could be masking the actual cause of the problem.
This does not make sense. If the website "partially" works, which part of it works? Either the PC-hosted website works or it doesn't.
What do you mean there's a prompt for "verification"? A screenshot of the "verification" prompt would help.

In the more than a dozen years I've been using this forum I cannot remember seeing any reports that Akeeba Backup blocks access to a website.

That looks like a Template (or Template override) issue.

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
NO. It's the jpa file that the kickstart.php file unpacks.
It starts with the site name, date, time, various alphanumeric characters and ends .jpa
e.g.
Code: Select all

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
If you have changed the database tables you probably have a mis match of files and database. Make sure the php is correct version for your Joomla then start again with a fresh folder in your localhost to an empty database.
N.B. The installer (packed in the .jpa file) will create the database on localhost.

Re: Getting 404 after site restored on localhost
[ altered quote removed ]Your screenshot shows a fatal [HTTP 500] error, not a [HTTP] 404 error.
Your website is not working at all. Your website is not "partially" working: your website is really broken.
There is also some cross-posting happening with this topic and viewtopic.php?f=707&t=998693. Should these two topics be merged?

What, exactly, did you "try" [to do]? If you don't know what you did then we can't help you. If you know what you did then please tell us exactly, step by step, what you did.

I might suggest that @aliteejay read the Akeeba documentation:
https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/ak ... ation.html
Kickstart documentation:
https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/ak ... ation.html
Or watch the videos on Akeeba's site - especially the restoration:

Re: Akeeba backup restoration of J3 site
Good suggestions, @gsmela, because I don't think @aliteejay, "gets it" or knows how to use Akeeba [backup and restore] products to copy their working website to a PC-hosted/XAMPP server.

You're right @sozzled which is why I was hoping they would pick up on the gentle nudge. Reading the directions really helps sometimes...

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Some users need more support than others before getting confidence. We don't know the OP's age or experience. Some people need to see videos

There is no "CHMOD" in Windows as such.
